Vesolo is the alias of the artist, DJ, producer and vocalist, Solo Matelau. Known for their blending of a highly contrasting selection, Vesolo creates an atmosphere unlike any other on the dance floor. Beginning their artistic career in New York City, Vesolo made an enigmatic name for themself playing as a live solo act at staple underground clubs such as Spectrum, HECK, and Secret Project Robot- eventually pursuing DJing and playing at nightclubs such as Knockdown Center, Nowadays and Paragon. Their sets have attracted attention from around the world and playing recently at Warsaw's queer rave 'Kem' and Paris's elusive 'Zhona' and with an upcoming Spanish tour playing at the iconic Razzmatazz and in Madrid at Skin the club. Musically they draw from their extensive classical music background, bringing a new take on where widely different genres of music can unite- techno meets opera, ambient meets house, metal meets electro. Their style is packed with energy and nostalgia, often quite dark but always experimental, bringing the listener on a journey from darkness to total bliss. As a lifelong musician, Estro has always explored the visceral aspects of sound. From a young age, her interest in sonics manifested in a boundless desire for experimentation. With a background in jazz music as a trumpet player since childhood, Estro’s experiences with improvisation and performance on the stage found their way to the DJ booth. Her fervent, intense passion for expression and movement finds its way into textural, spine-tingling production and jacking, sweaty, sexy sessions on the dancefloor. Outspoken, driving, and deep, Estro's performances and sets often feel like a manifesto of sorts, rolling and driving tension to its limit and pushing the envelope for New York's musical landscape. Estro's musical explorations have led her to digging through the deep, rich history of techno & house, blending timeless, smashing deep cuts with some of the genre's newest, most novel offerings. Her philosophy of maintaining digging culture leads to an eclectic, potent, and deeply rooted sound, prepared to be pushed into a futuristic and forward-thinking direction. Serene, jazzy, atmospheric selections of deep house, minimal, and dub techno are intertwined with driving, thumping peak-hours techno & trance. Estro uses her ever-expanding knowledge of her selections to captivate the dancefloor and continue to expand the capabilities of sound. As the founder of Orchidance, her new event series and personal project, Estro seeks to take her explorations of dance music and its surrounding culture into a more intentional and inclusive space. She hopes to continue creating a space for serenity and self-discovery, with an eclectic and personal curation of artists and collaborators from her ever-expanding rolodex of talent local and abroad.
