Expect to hear everything present in the consciousness of DJ Voices during one of her performances. For the past decade, the Brooklyn-based DJ has been cutting a deeper path through the party, a committed distributor of new sound and undefined genres. “Crazy music” you could call it. (She does.) In a time of homogenized cultural zones and drip-fed algorithmic taste, DJ Voices is an artist specializing in something deep(er). Her sets—free-range, roving, topographic and ecstatic— are free of the usual moderating impulses. They aren’t necessarily built to offer shelter or reassurances. But more of a story: The one about our cracked future-present and its radiating potential. It’s a story that DJ Voices (real name: Kristin Malossi) has been steadily exploring through her work, currently as a resident at The Lot Radio and formerly as a resident at Nowadays, where she also worked as a booker for seven years. Her presence in the Brooklyn electronic community has expanded its contours towards curiosity and exploration and pleasure, but also unafraid of challenge. Take one example: she may be the only DJ with an active book club, “Late Nites Book Club.” The regular reading group hosted by Malossi takes up writing across genre and topic, such as aesthetics, death, rave culture, and sonics. Fitting, given that the Florida-born DJ has become an outspoken voice on contemporary club culture, candidly articulating the variety of sensations and techniques of the dance floor experience. For Voices, club spaces can also serve as cites of discovery and experimentation; “the dance floor is my classroom” you might often hear her say. And it’s best to keep that in mind as you head into a Voices set, as class will most certainly be in session.Electro on 2, Breaks on 2, Power Electronics on 1 and Acid House on 1. styles on their catalogued releasesRecently at Million Goods, Earthly Delights, Bossa Nova Civic Club · often with DJ Plead, Sister Zo, L&D, none of them here that night

Lauren Flax has been a lifelong musician, starting to play the drums at 8 years old before continuing on to guitar and bass in high school. She began her DJ career in the underground dance and rave scenes of Detroit as a resident at the Motor Lounge, playing every Tuesday night along with resident DJs Mike Servito, DJ Dilemma, Jason Kendig, and Derek Plaslaiko. Flax played the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 on the Motor stage. While originally starting off as a jungle DJ, Flax evolved her style into a variety techno, house, and electro music. Flax moved to Chicago in 1999, where she honed in on music production while continuing to DJ. By 2002, she relocated again to Manhattan, which shortly followed the release of her first remix, "Much Finer" for Le Tigre. In 2018, Flax was introduced to DJ Haus by fellow Detroit musician and friend Jimmy Edgar, to which he quickly signed a record, resulting in "Dance Trax Vol. 16" (2018). In 2019, Flax joined the mostly Detroit-born New York collective The Bunker New York,[1] on which she released "One Man’s House is Another Woman’s Techno EP" (2019). The EP was highly successful and sold out quickly. Flax met with Brooklyn-based record label 2MR in 2019, curious to explore beyond the realm of dance music. She remixed 'Breathe' by label-mate Pale Blue, and that ended up inspiring Flax's new style of music. After the remix was released, Flax took to writing a 6 track EP, merging genres of ambient, acid house, and much more, set to come out in Summer 2021. Flax started touring the United States and Europe as a solo artist in 2019, performing live analog sets, pushing the boundaries of what a DJ is defined as.House on 39, Techno on 22, Acid House on 13 and Electro on 17. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on WRKTRX (3), Aliens On Wax (1) and House Of Efunk Records (1); their RA profile also lists Defected Records, !K7, Toolroom Records, Nervous Records and 6 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at BASEMENT, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Good Room · often with Sevyn 0000, Austin Kunis, Costume Design, none of them here that night
“A triple threat who lights up a room when behind the decks, in the studio and on stage, TORIBIO is a lifelong student of rhythm.”

A triple threat who lights up a room when behind the decks, in the studio and on stage, TORIBIO is a lifelong student of rhythm. Analyzing melodies and chords with a musician's ear, the Dominican-American artist blends different genres and moods in all his creative pursuits–DJing, producing, singing, playing instruments, and even his skills on the mic. Thanks to a childhood spent playing in church and jazz drumming, the Florida-born, New York-based act has a natural sense of harmony. He takes on the role of musical cartographer in his Afro-Latin band, Conclave, whose debut album was named one of Resident Advisor's best in 2021 and praised by both Rolling Stone and the New Yorker. Acting as the ensemble's bandlander, vocalist, and key instrumentalist, TORIBIO connects jazz, soul, and house from various cultures with style and grace. His speciality in sonic connections are especially tangible in his DJing. Gliding from pan-Latin club to raw electro to jazz to old-school funk, his sets are a masterclass in building energy and tension. Whether playing Boiler Room or clubs in Mexico City and Tokyo, he knows how to work a crowd with selections and transitions that are as precise as they are powerful. As a producer, his edits and originals are DJ weapons, rinsed by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Rich Medina, and Theo Parrish. His original tracks have been remixed by the likes of Louie Vega, Joe Claussell, and DJ Spinna. Known for fostering community through movement, his Brooklyn block parties (Public Service NYC) embody the spirit of New York’s dance culture while his newly formed imprint B.D.A. is quickly becoming known for bringing these vibes to vinyl. A TORIBIO show is a full-body experience— as he always says, “bring dat ass, and your feet will follow.”House on 16, Deep House on 6, Disco on 6 and Downtempo on 6. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on BDA (4) (2) and Bastard Jazz Recordings (1); their RA profile also lists BBE, Fool's Gold, Darker Than Wax, Razor-N-Tape and 4 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Good Room, Dead Letter No. 9, Make Believe · often with Mickey Perez, Love Injection, MUSCLECARS, none of them here that night

the whole biography
Moodymann worked at several Detroit record stores in the mid-nineties including a store owned by producer Blake Baxter. During the mid-nineties Kenny was also the resident DJ at the Detroit based Outcast Motorcycle Club. At that time he was known as "House". After his first several releases on Planet E Records Kenny became quite popular in France and from there his popularity grew. Moodymann sound is a hybrid form of techno/house dance music arrived at via innovative use of reworked riffs, samples and grooves. While he may frustrate people with his refusal to be interviewed and insistence on reminding people of the genre's origins, the soulfulness of his output is unquestioned. Utilizing classic soul and jazz samples, low-slung bass lines and an approach to drum programming that is diametrically opposed to the tendency to push the tempo faster and faster, he has achieved classic status thanks to gems like "Sunday Morning", "Shades of Jae", and his remix of Innerzone Orchestra's "People Make the World Go Round". Following years of 12" only releases, he compiled his best work on "Silentintroduction", one of the most celebrated albums of the late 90s.Their RA profile lists Peacefrog, Planet E, KDJ and Mahogani Music.Recently at Knockdown Center, Brooklyn Storehouse, 99 Scott Ave · often with Tony Touch, Eli Escobar, DJ Disciple, none of them here that night
