Daniel Rincon has lived in a hundred different worlds, and he has built a utopia in each of them. The Colombia-born artist—better known as NAP—would hear the sounds of cumbia and merengue floating through his house, but he was interested in rougher stuff: punk, hardcore, no wave. In his childhood, Rincon’s music teacher told his mother that he had an ear better fitted for field artillery than music; when he was a teenager, Rincon’s family moved to Vancouver, and there, he found a way to weaponize that ear. He started going to no wave shows, and he’d DJ parties with busted equipment. It was punk in sound, but more importantly, in practice.Techno on 7, Ambient on 6, House on 6 and Downtempo on 3. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on Craigie Knowes (1), Delicate Records (2) (1) and Quern (1). labels on their catalogued releasesRecently at Mansions, Million Goods, Nowadays · often with Norm Talley, deep creep, Francis Harris, none of them here that night

During their university years, DAY/DEM spearheaded DIY music events in Gainesville, FL, revitalizing the electronic music scene in the north Florida town. By throwing renegade events in storage units, record stores, and detached garages, the artist’s impact reverberated heavily throughout the community. Gatherings like these are where their love for the craft of music curation first sprouted as they turned these local spaces into sanctuaries for a tribe of music lovers. The electro savant now thrives in the unknown, wielding the power of selection and taste to transform dance floors at venues like Nowadays, Paragon, and Mansions in New York City, continuously molding their creative identity rooted in acid, dub techno, minimal and house. Their emotive presence aligns powerfully with artists they’ve opened for such as Dutch techno experimentalist Spekki Webu of Mirror Zone and Belgian pathfinder Rey Colino behind Kalahari Oyster Cult. Their musical palette is further revealed through productions via Compost Discs, Starry Records, and various self-releases. DAY/DEM is dynamic, intuitive, and creatively restless, quickly becoming a name that resonates far beyond the decks.
