Who they are
“Watching Cassy eagerly dive into her record collection is a joy.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Watching Cassy eagerly dive into her record collection is a joy. Away from the transcendent spaces she continues to play at most weekends, her vinyl-digging series Talking About My Records on Instagram gives ample opportunity to engage with her endearing excitability. Its concept being spurred by moving back home to Austria and reconnecting with a stacked vinyl stash, you can feel the buzz gained from rediscovering lost gems and rinsed B-sides. Keen to share this experience with whoever’s watching, what makes this series stand out is the sense that Cassy’s enthusiasm and faithfulness to the music that fuels club culture has been revived. We’re seeing the beginning of a new era for Cassy. Given that her trailblazing career surpasses two decades, a serious reset to recalibrate should be expected. She’s lived in Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, London, New York and LA; worked at iconic record store Hard Wax; held residencies at hallowed clubs Panorama Bar, Trouw, Output, DC-10 for Circo Loco, Rex Club, Amnesia for Cocoon, and Pacha with her own night in the Pachacha room; taken in massive festivals and heaving basements the world over; contributed to the seminal mix series from Panorama Bar, fabric and Cocoon; dropped records on Perlon, Aus, K7!, Ostgut Ton, Cocoon Recordings and Bass Culture; and launched her record label Kwench Records featuring EPs from Fred P, Demuir, Ian Pooley, Kristen Velvet, Chris Carrier, Art Alfie, Amir Alexander and Steve Bug. In 2020, Cassy tapped out, moving to Austria with her mother and son. Getting distance from the challenges of the scene and learning to rest was needed. It’d be a drum & bass set with Ray Keith via a live stream by London club FOLD that did some of the work to lure her back. Cassy’s return would be further cemented by record digging sessions with her unearthed collection, pulling out tracks from Ron Hardy, Regis, Mike Dunn, Tin Man, Étienne de Crécy and Terrence Dixon, among many more. Making her debut in South Korea, fulfilling an urge to spend more time in Buenos Aires, throwing herself back into Berlin’s bubble, playing at Heideglühen,ELSE, Renate and Panorama bar, Cassy is future-focussed with an outlook that she’s here to enjoy DJing anew. “There’s fresh audiences out there to connect with, and that excites me,” Cassy explains. “I feel like I better understand my job description. I better appreciate what the moment needs and I’m less concerned with what records I have to play to keep my reputation intact. We can be too critical of ourselves. As Larry Levan advised, drop the ego. Let’s keep it real.” Flip through the two EPs that she released in 2023 on her label Kwench Records, and you’ll get a good feeling of where she’s at with her confidence as a producer and label head. On E.T. Ascension, Cassy utilises Roland’s 808 and her computer in a bid to honour her roots. Eager to strip it back to the basics, sending waves into the past when she was living in Berlin using that exact minimalist setup, she’d feel connected with herself again. “It’d been a long time since I’d used an 808. It was nice to revisit these feelings using the machine, lean into my weirdness in producing music and also use my vocals. I’m super proud of this record. It gives me that kick to get more and more creative with every release.” Ultimately, Cassy has liberated herself from the pressures of blasting through a checklist according to whatever the dominant standard may be. Representing herself in a true and sincere way is all that she demands.Their RA profile lists Cocoon Recordings, Turbo Recordings, Perlon, Diamonds & Pearls and 6 more.Recently at public records, Nowadays, H0L0 · often with Vera, Chris Stussy, Farida Bady, none of them here that night

Tom Harris AKA Hidden Spheres first made his mark on the underground circuit with his release ‘The Bloos’ on legendary Motor City label Moods & Grooves. He is however most well-known for his continually repressed and in demand EP ‘Waiting’, the debut release, which graced the top of many end of year lists. Within the same year Hidden Spheres made his debut on Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section with the EP ‘Well Well’ and reached top 10 spots in dance charts around the globe and 2017 saw Hidden Spheres also make waves with his release ‘It Ain’t Easy’. He then began his monthly show ‘Fruit Merchant’ on NTS. The show has now evolved into his new record label and musical outlet where he has multiple outputs released. More recently, Harris has put out solid EPs on Church, Scissor and Thread, Oath and a track on CC:DISCO!’s second First Light compilation. As a DJ, Hidden Spheres draws from all his musical knowledge, always aspiring for togetherness and inclusiveness on the dance floor. JENIFA MAYANJA Ugandan born Jenifa Mayanja has been deeply entrenched in the underground deep house music scene for more than 25 years since the early 90's staking her claim in New York. Steadily rising through the ranks Ms. Mayanja's profile has maintained an underground buzz that has her earned her a revered place as the “first lady of deep house” and a reputation for being an innovative, fearless and respected musical ambassador for women in house music. The underground culture that Jenifa Mayanja planted roots in began in New York for her as a serious music selector and music buyer at the now defunct legendary record store “Dancetracks”. This also led to an opportunity to learn firsthand about running a record label working for “Spiritual Life” owned by Joe Claussell. They say New York djs know how to be able to work any kind of situation because crowds are tough to please, well Jenifa got an education that built her into the kind of fearless dj she is today. Holding down weekly residencies at major clubs and as a main stay of the East Village thriving lounge scene of the 90s honed her technical skills and ability as a dj to move seamlessly through genres. Jenifa’s creation of the Bumako Recordings label in 2007 introduced the world to the naturalistic deep house sound she is known for as an artist and has led her musical vision for the Bumako label. From inception to now, Bumako has developed a devoted fan base that religiously follows the diverse releases on the label to date almost 25 of them including full length albums, cds and digital releases. The “Woman Walking in the Shadows” album in 2011, really set her apart from the fray and brought a new kind of attention to her signature world infused house music. She has also been at the helm of a variety of signature remixes for artists and labels of the likes of Nina Kraviz, Ethereal Sounds Anton Zap's label, Soul People Music Fred P's label, Altered Mood Recordings, Street Knowledge while also providing original productions for labels like Big Bait, Abstract Theory and recently Orbits Records run by the Bass Cadet Crew. While other djs value quantity, Jenifa Mayanja’s DJ ethos has been about bringing music culture, quality and love to the game. She has played multiple times at Panorama Bar, Fabric London, Output New York, along with appearances at Concrete Paris, Djoon and beloved events like “Freerotation”, “Horse meat disco”, and Heidegluhen”.Her dj appearances have also included stops at underground events in Tel Aviv, London, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Cologne, Brooklyn, Helsinki and Moscow. Jenifa Mayanja is also involved with two other labels EDJ and Sound Warrior. The EDJ label she co-owns with her famous other half DJ Jus-Ed. They have to date 5 releases with “Love it or Leave it” EP being premiered on the “ED & Jen” tour at the Freerotation Festival. The Sound Warrior label she co-created with Dakini 9 to showcase music production exclusively produced by women now boasts 4 major release including a double vinyl compilation featuring 9 other incredible women to be released April 2017. With her 3rd album “Stranger things have happened”coming in the summer of 2017 and upcoming long players on Sistrum, & Deep Art, Jenifa Mayanja continues to be a force to be reckoned with in her own right as an artist, dj and label owner with a distinct musical signatureTheir RA profile lists Underground Quality, Deep Explorer Music, Altered Moods, Bu-Mako Recordings and 6 more.Recently at public records, Under the K Bridge, Signal · often with Lovie, Francis Harris, Julion De'Angelo, none of them here that night
“Objekt is TJ Hertz, a producer and DJ living in Berlin.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Objekt is TJ Hertz, a producer and DJ living in Berlin. Born in Tokyo to British-American and Filipino parents, Hertz grew up in Belgium and the UK before settling in Berlin in 2009. He first became known for head-turning club records, beginning with the self-released stamped whitelabel 12”s Objekt #1 and #2 in 2011, and following these up with a remix for Radiohead and releases on influential dance music labels such as Hessle Audio. Shocking out to the disassembled dubstep contortions of "Cactus" and “Unglued”, the juddering mindmelt of "Agnes Demise", or IDM headturner “Ganzfeld” became a familiar experience for a generation of clubgoers. Hertz’s club output quickly garnered support from the likes of Aphex Twin and Autechre, and his early successes led to a split EP on Leisure System with Drexciyan electro pioneers Dopplereffekt. (The track in question, “Ganzfeld”, was picked as RA’s #1 track of 2014). The whitelabel Objekt #4, released in 2017, delivered a huge crossover hit in the form of breakbeat house anthem “Theme From Q”. Objekt #5, released in 2022, is his slowest – and perhaps fiercest – 12” to date, exploring dancehall rhythms and sonics with his trademark originality. Meanwhile, Hertz’s albums Flatland (2014) and Cocoon Crush (2018), both released on PAN, delve deep into complex sonic worlds. Hertz approaches the LP format as a canvas on which to paint unique, hyper-detailed works of electronic music which are rich with imagination and surprises. Both albums featured widely on year-end lists, with Pitchfork describing Cocoon Crush as containing “some of the most meticulously arranged compositions that dance music has ever produced”. In 2019, Objekt followed Cocoon Crush with a full-spectrum live A/V show in collaboration with visual artist Ezra Miller, touring a string of key festivals including Unsound, Atonal and Primavera. In parallel, Objekt has built a reputation as one of the must-see DJs of his generation. Selected as Mixmag’s DJ of the Year in 2018, he thrives in festival tents and sweatbox basements alike. His DJing style is equal parts wild and laser-focused, making full use of technique and technology to surprise and entertain, while paying little heed to genre or BPM and feeding off spontaneity and crowd connection. Hertz’s DJing is also unpredictable: one night he might duck and dive through half a dozen genres in pursuit of an unhinged party atmosphere (especially if he’s playing b2b with his dear friend and partner in crime, Call Super). Another night he might guide you by the hand through a terrifying psychedelic wormhole of self-discovery. It’s these qualities that make his recorded sets so beloved – from his 2020 Essential Mix, to the widely-shared recording of his 8-hour set at New York clubbing institution Nowadays in 2021, to his 2016 mix CD for Berlin techno institution Tresor, Kern Vol. 3, which was described by Resident Advisor as “a window into the very essence of DJing”. Hertz's creative activities are unified by his quality control (his output is sporadic, but painstakingly detailed and never less than outstanding) and his agnostic approach to genre (he cuts across traditional divides in both his productions and his DJ sets). His work is informed by a highly technical background: alongside his practice as a producer and DJ he continues to work part-time as an engineer for music software company Native Instruments, where he develops audio and machine learning algorithms as well as instruments and FX. He gave a lecture to the Red Bull Music Academy in 2018.Their RA profile lists Tresor, Hessle Audio, Leisure System, Objekt and 2 more.Recently at MoMA, Knockdown Center, Nowadays · often with fleet.dreams, Curated by, Pleasure Patterns, none of them here that night
