Who they are
“Freddy K: techno activist.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Freddy K: techno activist. Since the ‘90s Alessio Armeni has been tireless campaigning from the dancefloor, defending vinyl, championing young talents and reinforcing the scene from the shadows. You will know him best for his marathon DJ sets and deviant selections. You might recognise him as the head of KEY Vinyl, or for the backstage role he played at M_Rec, the label he helped run with best friend Max_M. You should definitely know about Virus, the thing that started it all off for him back in Rome. Lory D and Leo Anibaldi’s The Sound of Rome movement; Luca Cucchetti’s renowned Mad radio shows; warehouses, soundsystems and rave all informed Freddy K’s earliest obsession with techno. He started DJing at Sunday after hour events, having danced all through the night himself. In 1993, aged 21, he launched his now famous Virus radio show, which ran daily from 8PM to midnight, and from midnight to 6AM every Saturday. Parties, a booking agency and record shop soon followed: the Virus movement had arrived. A year later Freddy K signed to the legendary ACV, who released his first EP, Control. Rage Of Age, his debut album came in 1995; a dark and noisy record influenced by his two passions, Chicago acid and rock. It was widely lauded throughout the country and remains a testament to the old Sound of Rome today. After Virus peaked and having toured all over the world with ACV, Freddy K stopped DJing and retreated to the backroom. He spent the early millennial years working with Sandro Nasonte at Rome’s flagship record store, Remix. Together they set up the influential Elettronica Romana label, which released some of Donato Dozzy and Giorgio Gigli's first EPs. He moved to the German capital in 2009, setting up KEY Vinyl as a “techno label for DJs” two years later. Artists like PVS and Héctor Oaks have helped forge the label’s (and Freddy K’s own) traditionalist view on techno. Moving to Berlin reignited Freddy K’s teenage infatuation with rave. He soon fell in with Homopatik, the former monthly gay event at ://about blank. He became notorious for his epic 10, 14 and 16 hour-long sessions there, playing always strictly vinyl and in a dynamic, party conscious fashion. Freddy K sets are characteristically mercurial and 100% tailored for the dance. He plays a “360°-style of techno,” which can include Soft Cell, WestBam or Bronski Beat—when the timing is just right. He played his first Berghain set in 2013; two years later he was closing the place, keeping the energy levels soaring well into Monday. The last 20 minutes, he says, are the most important. So be sure to stick around till the very end.Their RA profile lists Key Vinyl.Recently at BASEMENT, Knockdown Center · often with ROBUS, D.Dan, The Lady Machine, none of them here that night
“Over the past few years, Mos has established a resonant voice within the electronic music community.”

Over the past few years, Mos has established a resonant voice within the electronic music community. The rituals surrounding electronic music have always fascinated Mos, the devotion to craft, the importance of empathy, and emphasis on community. Mos pulls both contemporary tracks and enduring sounds of the past. The result; timeless. Growing up in New York, Mos began working in nightlife at the age of 15 when he was hired by Selah Marley to design and build a party installation in downtown Brooklyn named ‘Primordial Palace’. While Mos was raised in Brooklyn, he originally was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. In September 2005, Hurricane Katrina tore through the Gulf of Mexico and ravaged New Orleans. This resulted in his family’s relocation to New York City, Mos was only two years old then. Years later, his discovery of electronic music in NYC has led him to dance floors across the world, Kyiv, Brussels, Paris, and Berlin all contributing to his track selection.Recently at BASEMENT, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Knockdown Center · often with Annie Lew, Massimiliano Pagliara, Concrete Husband, none of them here that night
“Nita is a noted member of the legendary House of Aviance.”

Nita is a noted member of the legendary House of Aviance. She started DJing around the turn of the millennium and was a resident at the infamous Mr. Black and Westgay, both touchstones for queer artistry and culture in downtown nightlife of the early 2000's. Will has deep roots in NYC club culture, having worked at The Loft and collaborated closely with David Mancuso, holding residencies at many of the downtown New York clubs over the years including The Limelight, Life and Vandam. After dividing his time between NYC and Paris, working on music with fashion houses such as Issey Miyake, Vivienne Westwood and Yves Saint Laurent, Will returned to DJing dance floors when he co-created SPANK with partners Sean B & Jason Roe. What started as a basement dance party evolved into a roving art-based warehouse party along with a namesake zine. SPANK began to work closely with Horse Meat Disco and the close relationship with that crew has extended in various forms through the years into the present. Currently, Nita and Will perform globally as both individual DJs and, more often, as a duo --they are most recognized for epic extended B2B sets and their wildly successful monthly queer party (also known as The Carry Nation) at Brooklyn's Good Room. Their range is wide and exciting, and in the New York tradition they effortlessly flow through genres and time periods while keeping a modern edge. Since the inception of The Carry Nation, the duo has toured the world extensively including Glastonbury’s Block 9 and Berlin’s Berghain/Panorama Bar among many others. They also have a residency at Ladyfag's flagship monthly Battle Hymn. As producers, their credits include releases and remixes on Get Up Recordings, Classic Music Company, TRIBAL, Nervous, TRAX, Batty Bass, TWIRL, W&O Street Tracks and more. Their latest venture is Major Records, an imprint they co-founded with Justin Cudmore to showcase their Majorettes collaboration with releases that are setting dancefloors alight with a fresh but classic house vibe that stays rooted in the excitement of New York’s history and underground.House on 28, Tech House on 7, Techno on 4 and Deep House on 5. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on Nervous Records (2) and Cómeme (1); their RA profile also lists Batty Bass Records, HNYTRX, Twirl, Good Company Records and 1 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Signal, Paragon, 314 Scholes · often with Nita Aviance, Will Automagic, Kim Anh, none of them here that night

The short-story version of Kim Ann Foxman’s trajectory is pretty simple: An island-born kid dreams of a life in clubland, hits the big city and, with a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work, emerges as one of dance music’s leading figures. But it’s the details that transforms her singular tale into something far more fascinating than the standard-issue success story. After all, what other DJ can lay claim to the title of Miss Teen Filipina Hawaii? How many can say that their first job in nightlife was when in high school, serving as the in-house dancer and serving rave smoothies at an all-ages club? How many, after moving to New York by way of San Francisco in the early ’00s, can say that they helped to rejuvenate the city’s then-stale nightlife via her residency at one of the best parties ever held in a hole-in-the-wall gay bar, the Mad Clams affair? How many have tasted stardom as one of the original members of the scene-making dance-music collective Hercules and Love Affair? Exactly one, and it’s Kim Ann. But it’s a safe bet that she would have made it to where she is today without those biographical eccentricities, because her near-classical take on jacking club rhythms is hard to resist, sounding as fantastic at a full-scale mega-rave as it does at a grimy basement bash. It’s a universally appealing sound that’s taken her around the world—the past few years have seen her playing such hallowed halls as Fabric, Berghain, DC-10, Concrete and Contact, all while holding down a residency at her hometown’s Good Room. A lifetime in clubbing has informed Kim Ann’s studio work as well, with her music—much of it coming out on her own Firehouse label—synthesizing the best elements of raw house, propulsive 303 material, emotive techno and even the occasional hint of trance into a hugely satisfying whole that lives somewhere between the weird and the wonderful. And then there’s her latest project, Pleasure Planet, which sees her teaming with Andrew Potter and Brian Hersey to add sparkling touches of extraterrestrial new wave to the mix on her new sublabel, self:timer. It’s yet another twist in the continuing saga of Kim Ann Foxman—and, we’d wager, there are plenty more to come.
