Raised between Michigan and Ontario, the artist has carved a unique pathway for herself since the launch of her debut EP Notice, gaining traction throughout North America and beyond for her eclectic hardware live sets. With the titular single securing a spot on NPR’’s “100 Best Songs of 2021” list, Notice–released through Shigeto’s Portage Garage Sounds label–is currently on its third vinyl pressing. To the outside eye, Lakkis’ rise might appear rapid; in reality, it’s been over a decade in the making for the songwriter, singer, producer, poet, and DJ. A music lover from a young age, she wrote her first song at 17, experimenting with the singer/songwriting format before her exposure to the Detroit techno sound. Shapeshifting with time, she debuted “This Is How It Goes,” a synth-laden jam in early 2019. She discovered a sonic home in Seraphine Collective, a collective supporting women and queer creators, honing her talents as a selector and technical mixer. She premiered her live set in 2018 weaving Arabic vocals and genre-defying beats, solidifying her as one to watch. Since 2021, she’s been expanding her reach, touring with Ela Minus across the US and Shigeto across Europe, and landing a radio show with Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM. Remaining true to her roots however, she has maintained a presence in Detroit, hosting two DJ residencies in the city, playing regularly in clubs such as Spot Lite and Marble Bar, and making her debut at Movement Electronic Music Festival in 2022. She has performed in support of Danny Brown at his annual Bruiser Thanksgiving and in collaboration with NTS. In 2022, she was named a Kresge Artist Fellow for her boundary-pushing artistic achievement. She premiered her music video for Notice’s “Wen Rayeh” in late 2022 to positive reception. She’s currently developing her sophomore release. -Crystal MionerTheir RA profile lists Portage Garage Sounds.Recently at Eavesdrop, Chatroom at Elsewhere, public records · often with DJ Shannon, Vladimir Ivkovic, cotton, none of them here that night

Lauren Flax has been a lifelong musician, starting to play the drums at 8 years old before continuing on to guitar and bass in high school. She began her DJ career in the underground dance and rave scenes of Detroit as a resident at the Motor Lounge, playing every Tuesday night along with resident DJs Mike Servito, DJ Dilemma, Jason Kendig, and Derek Plaslaiko. Flax played the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 on the Motor stage. While originally starting off as a jungle DJ, Flax evolved her style into a variety techno, house, and electro music. Flax moved to Chicago in 1999, where she honed in on music production while continuing to DJ. By 2002, she relocated again to Manhattan, which shortly followed the release of her first remix, "Much Finer" for Le Tigre. In 2018, Flax was introduced to DJ Haus by fellow Detroit musician and friend Jimmy Edgar, to which he quickly signed a record, resulting in "Dance Trax Vol. 16" (2018). In 2019, Flax joined the mostly Detroit-born New York collective The Bunker New York,[1] on which she released "One Man’s House is Another Woman’s Techno EP" (2019). The EP was highly successful and sold out quickly. Flax met with Brooklyn-based record label 2MR in 2019, curious to explore beyond the realm of dance music. She remixed 'Breathe' by label-mate Pale Blue, and that ended up inspiring Flax's new style of music. After the remix was released, Flax took to writing a 6 track EP, merging genres of ambient, acid house, and much more, set to come out in Summer 2021. Flax started touring the United States and Europe as a solo artist in 2019, performing live analog sets, pushing the boundaries of what a DJ is defined as.House on 39, Techno on 22, Acid House on 13 and Electro on 17. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on WRKTRX (3), Aliens On Wax (1) and House Of Efunk Records (1); their RA profile also lists Defected Records, !K7, Toolroom Records, Nervous Records and 6 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at BASEMENT, Bossa Nova Civic Club, 99 Scott Ave · often with Sevyn 0000, Austin Kunis, Costume Design, none of them here that night
