“Where do you start with A Guy Called Gerald?”
their own biography
the whole biography
Where do you start with A Guy Called Gerald? A hidden gem, the gateway between Chicago house / Detroit Techno and the UK dance music explosion in the late 80s. He is one of a few special producers who entered dance music in the jacking zone. He is the first UK acid house producer and probably the first producer to have two instrumental dance tracks in the UK charts at the same. He formed 808 State with a drum machine, a 303, 2 Roland SH101s and 2 other humans. His collaborations stem from Frankie Knuckles, Goldie, Finley Quaye and Derrick May through to Herbie Hancock, remixed for David Bowie, Lamb, Stone Roses, Black Uhuru, Can, Tricky, Roman Fluegel and The Orb and toured with New Order, Tricky and Bebel Gilberto. When the history of postmodern dance music is written he is ubiquitous: his visions, his stylistic versatility and open mindedness had a huge influence on the development of global dance culture. Very early on, he experimented with acid house and helped pioneer the style that was later called jungle and drum'n'bass. Fiercely independent he's preparing himself for a string of new releases, the launch of his online shop and touring worldwide. The Manchester scene in the late 80s radiated from the Hacienda. It was a place which grew to be a breeding ground for the likes of Laurent Garnier and Chemical Brothers and in the Summer of Love the Hacienda had a theme tune called Voodoo Ray. It was A Guy Called Gerald's first release in 1988 and became a seminal classic that put British house music firmly on the map. As part of 808 State’s first incarnation he co-produced another Hacienda classic, Pacific State. He soon decided to concentrate on his solo project and toured worldwide (and with a quarter of a ton of equipment!) performing live. In the early 90s he launched his own label Juice Box and released a series of 12"s that were the blueprint to what would become jungle. In 1992 he compiled these releases into the proto jungle classic "28 Gun Bad Boy" album. In 1995 he followed up with the definitive "Black Secret Technology" to critical acclaim. Black Secret Technology featured Finley's Rainbow with vocals by Finley Quaye and a collaboration with Goldie. Finley's Rainbow featured Finley Quaye who later re-released the tune on his debut album. In 2005 Knowledge Magazine ranked "28 Gun Bad Boy" EP was as the No. 1 jungle single of all time. His sound was an inspiration to many - Goldie, LTJ Bukem and DJ Krust have all stated his influence. But never wanting to be stereotyped into any particular style of music his sound continued to develop. In 2000 he signed with !K7 Records and released "Essence" with guest vocals from singer/songwriter Wendy Page, Lady Kier and Finley Quaye. In 2005 the down tempo "To All Things What They Need". In 2005 he launched his Sugoi and Protechson labels. His latest album "Proto Acid / The Berlin Sessions", released on Berlin's Laboratory Instinct, is an infectious 71 minute continuous mix recorded live. 2008 marks 20 years of A Guy Called Gerald in dance music and to celebrate a definitive collection of A Guy Called Gerald’s back catalogue is planned for release featuring rare and unreleased tracks and remixes. In July a remaster of 1995’s jungle classic “Black Secret Technology” was reissued. And in August “In Ya Head feat. Mia” came out on Berlin’s favourite Perlon Records. He continues to tour bringing his studio into the clubs worldwide playing anywhere from 2 to now legendary 14 hour LIVE sets – no DJ software, no gimmicks, just raw, pure, undiluted AGCG riddums strictly for the dancefloor.Their RA profile lists !K7, Sender Records, Perlon, Beatstreet and 5 more.Recently at H0L0, Nowadays · often with Sammy Dee, Zip, Daniel Bell, none of them here that night

“To some he is the champion of the underground.”
their own biography
the whole biography
To some he is the champion of the underground. Others see him for the first time and ask the person dancing like crazy next to them, "Where did THIS guy come from?" Think of Detroit Techno and DJ Bone might not be high on your list of luminaries because he is 100% independent and does things on his terms and on his terms only. He won't tap dance or bend to fit the "popular" dj mold. Those who recognize Bone know him for his uncompromising and innovative ways. It's no accident that two letters always precede Bone's name whenever he's on the bill. First and foremost, Bone is a DJ-in the truest sense. When he spins, it's as if the turntables and the mixer become a physical extension of his body. He employs every possible technique in the disc jockey arsenal masterfully: blending, scratching, backspinning, no monitors or headphones; unrivaled in his use of the fader switch and he incorporates them all into every set. From his standing room only residency performances to after-hours spots, he rocks every show as if it's his last. What the general public and far too many DJs don't realize is that Bone spins as much for his own enjoyment as he does for the audience. It's a compulsion that only those who live for what they do possess and those who don't can never understand: Bone lives to spin-it's a necessary part of his existence. His dedication to the art of dance music and DJing is so untainted and intense that the tales of his confrontational encounters with flashy booking agents and "big name" djs are already the stuff of legend. No hype or trends, just a relentless drive and passion to take the party to another level. That's why he's one of the few spin masters other DJs hate to follow. DJ Bone is one of Detroit's most coveted underground vinyl technicians. This very talented and highly sought after artist plays events and clubs worldwide, has held a residency at four of Detroit's top clubs and produces music inspired by the city in which he hales from, Detroit. His record label Subject Detroit is futuristic and unearthly while still displaying the true essence of Detroit's Techno Soul. Bone experienced the emotion, passion and energy of Detroit Techno first hand at the infamous Music Institute. What he witnessed there, along with the eclectic mix of music filling Detroit's airwaves by the legendary Electrifyin' Mojo and The Wizard, would serve to be Bone's main influences. Bone began his DJ career spinning groundbreaking sets weekly at The Love Club (The Shelter). From there he gained a dedicated following which eventually led to him playing at three different clubs five nights a week, as well as several underground parties in Detroit. An invitation to provide fortnightly, live mixes for the Deep Space Radio show on 107.5 in Detroit was also extended. After hearing Bone in Detroit (1996 Love Club Anniversary Party), Laurent Garnier booked him to headline at the Rex Club in Paris. Soon after word spread and Bone was invited to play events all over Europe. A lack of electronic music which fit his style led Bone to produce his own original songs to incorporate into his funky and eclectic sets. He took it a step further and started his label Subject Detroit focusing on true Sonic Soul. In late 1997, Bone began his residency at the Motor Lounge in Hamtramck (bordering Detroit on all sides) pioneering an underground Detroit Techno night. Within a month, the number of Bone's weekly session attendees topped 1,000 as well as tens of thousands of others tuning in to his live set broadcast on the radio every Friday from midnight until 2 am (87.9 FM). Always looking to expand minds and move bodies, Bone took on the challenge avoided by so many DJs before him familiar with Detroit by name only. For nearly three years, he amazed his crowds, which included out-of-towners from as far as Japan and Australia alongside his Detroit faithful. Unfortunately, due to Motor's attempt to exploit what Bone had founded and loved, he decided to depart from the club and his residency. Bone's observation of the trend to book producers to spin, as opposed to actual DJs, prompted him to go against the grain and establish himself as a DJ first and foremost. He believes that an individual's talent should speak for itself and not be overshadowed or misconstrued by hype. DJ Bone describes himself as "an uncompromising, hype hating, 100% independent, real Detroit native come auditory striker and soul controller that cannot be bought". "If the gig is set-up with the music as the main focus (as it should be), then I have total control over the vibe. That's my duty. I'm not worried about having a Hollywood production going on or special effects with video images, smoke, etc. Just playing the best possible music as well as I can. I feel the need to constantly progress skill-wise and I feel my 3 deck sets are truly unique. Many DJs have 3 decks in front of them but how often do they actually have 3 records playing all at once (with the levels up)?” – DJ BONETheir RA profile lists Music Man Records, Subject Detroit, Sect Records, Wallshaker Music and 5 more.Recently at Signal, Nowadays, BASEMENT · often with GLOBUS, DAIYAH, FURTHER, none of them here that night

Tara loves nightlife, having started out as an event producer and promoter. As a member of Rare Form, she helped originate Donuts are Forever, an annual fundraiser/tribute to J. Dilla, as well as Makossa Brooklyn Cookout, now 10 years strong as a beloved Brooklyn summer hang. Having performed at diverse and unconventional venues around New York City and abroad, Tara is always eager to find new and exciting crowds to spin for. Early on in her career, Tara realized being a DJ is more than just playing a mix of records; it is a matter of building trust between herself and the crowd and sharing the knowledge and love the she has for the music and the feelings it projects onto the listeners. The crowd trusts Tara to become part of another great night in their lives, and she returns that favor by giving them a taste of the familiar as well as something new that may be something they have never realized was needed in their musical memory.Recently at Nublu 151, public records, Rodeo · often with FLORA, JADALAREIGN, Toribio, none of them here that night

their own biography
the whole biography
In today's fast-paced culture of opportunism and ambition, you seldom meet an individual with remarkable abilities and a storied history of achievements concurrently anchored in humility. Thus, the virtuoso known as GE-OLOGY is a rare find indeed. During the 80's, the young Baltimore native eventually relocated to New York City, where his multi-dimensional talent was destined to ripen with opportunities that continue to ensue globally. This masterful music producer, exceptionally skilled DJ, and equally gifted visual artist has been acclaimed for over two decades, however he remains somewhat of a mystery. Over the course of his career, he's worked with the likes of Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, De La Soul, Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon), Jem and even a young Tupac Shakur. After years of producing dominantly hip-hop tempo releases, he defiantly returned in 2015 with the dance floor monster "Moon Circuitry" featuring Mark de Clive-Lowe (his debut single on Theo Parrish's esteemed Sound Signature imprint). It was received in high regard as perhaps one of the top releases of the year in the underground dance music scene (instituting anticipation for his full-length LP scheduled to be released later this year). Although his roots in composing 4-on-the-floor dance tempo music dates as far back as his earliest hip-hop beats, this seemingly "new" direction boldly challenged expectations based on his previous body of work. Yet to the contrary, his very first production appearance came in the form of a collaboration with the Baltimore-based house music legends, The Basement Boys, who used one of his tracks for their 'Those Guys' moniker in 1993. Collecting records from the age of 5, playing instruments from age 9, and DJing since the age of 11...his relationship with music has been a lifelong journey of unyielding education & exploration. There's something very personal, intimate and risky in his approach to playing records that you don't often experience in today's DJ sets. Traveling across continents with selects from his carefully curated vinyl collection, he digs deep, weaving diverse genres that seamlessly coalesce to bring dance floors to life. ■Deep House on 14, Disco on 9, House on 11 and Conscious on 21. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on Adeen (1), High Praise (2) (1) and Love Universal (1); their RA profile also lists Sony, Ubiquity Records, BMG, Sound Signature and 6 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Green Room NYC, Signal, Moondog Hifi · often with Cosmo, Tom of England, Paul Nickerson, none of them here that night

the whole biography
Juana has enticed crowds all over the world at venues such as Berghain, LuxFrágil, Fabric, Smartbar, Basement, Nowadays, and countless festivals and underground warehouse gigs. She originally hails from the city of Chicago where she cultivated her love for the underground at clubs like Smartbar and The Generator and parties such as Soul in the Hole and Boom Boom Room. She began DJing in roughly 2001 and moved to DC in 2003 where she began hosting weekly live internet radio shows on HandzOnRadio (Baltimore) and Cyberjamz (Tampa) and playing parties in the DC scene, upping her skills alongside her mentor and legendary DJ Sam “the Man” Burns, and at clubs including Red and the DC Sanctuary. Juana started obsessively collecting disco and early house records in the late 90s and eventually developed an undying penchant for straight-ahead techno and deeper, darker shades of first and second-wave Chicago dance music. In the 2010s, Juana made her mark in DC as one of only a handful of techno DJs and a resident of the legendary rave, Sequence, and started regularly touring North and South America and EU. In the 2020s, Juana picked up major momentum, becoming a resident of the renowned rave Unter and making frequent appearances at Basement, Nowadays, and Paragon. She has been a founding member of the DC QT BIPOC collective NOXEEMA JACKSON since 2021, and in 2026, joined the MERGE collective. As a producer, her most recent EP “We Are Everything We Think We're Not” was released in March 2024, and she has also appeared recently on releases from the No Mercy, World Building, and Perimeter Junk labels. “To sum it up best, Juno sees techno as a textbook through culture and history.”

To sum it up best, Juno sees techno as a textbook through culture and history. The Queens, NY-born Jamaican DJ has always gravitated toward electronic music since they were younger, but it wasn’t until after their time living in Germany and North Carolina that they realized how much deeper this music goes. Through their own research and the guidance of the owners of the former NC record store 641 RPM (shoutout E&T), they discovered the roots and sound of the music we all love. Underground Resistance, DJ Bone , Jay Denham , and many more acts and individuals inspired them and shaped what this music means to them, as well as what it can teach to so many, such as themes of resistance, community, and humanity. Now living back in Queens, they’ve been making their way around the circuit, playing at notable spots like Bossa Nova Civic Club, Signal and H0L0 , where they’ve shared the stage with techno OGS such as Joey Beltram, Adam X, DJ Shufflemaster, Mike Dearborn, and Shawnscape Renegade. While their growth may not be exponential, they’re truly in this for the long game and the love of the sound. Picking up records in late 2023 only deepened their passion and knowledge of music, and they’ve become increasingly comfortable with their style, showcasing it whenever they can in the new NYC music scene.Recently at Signal, Paragon, Bossa Nova Civic Club · often with LINDA, KYRUH, none of them here that night

Their sets are palpably personal: The dance floor has always been a powerful platform for expression for Kilo, once as a freeing and connecting space for a quiet house dancer and now as one for moving others like them. When Kilo gets going, you’ll lose sense of the kick drum versus the beat of your own body against the floor. That’s a gift from them to you, and your percussion is a gift back to them. Kilo brings their energetic sass to a monthly Lot Radio residency and to parties with impressive lineups, playing alongside Todd Terry home in New York, at the legendary Movement weekend Club Toilet in Detroit, and for Boiler Room. Their mixes, for series such as Coloring Lessons, Honcho, and Juanita’s, and for spots on Rinse and Refuge, also capture the club at its most euphoric. I was born and raised in the Caribbean, specifically in Barbados, where dance music and community are very alive in our daily lives especially within our community. I grew up mostly listening to dancehall and reggae in my household, but from a young age I found myself draw to techno through dancing — not through a scene, but through how the rhythm made me feel in my body. Techno is a sound that’s far from common in the Eastern Caribbean, which made the connection I feel for it even more personal. it resonated with me in a way that felt physical, emotional, and deeply personal. I started producing electronic dance music in Barbados just for fun, but after moving to the United States at 18, I began to take it more seriously. I started DJing in college, and over time, it grew into something much bigger than a hobby but a way of creating the saame freedom of dancing through sound processing and expressing experience.Recently at Oberon, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Nowadays · often with Byrell The Great, Cyb3r Bull, Adrian Hex, none of them here that night

Growing up in Brazil, Guarulhos, she was surrounded by music and dance from a young age; it wasn’t long before she was diving into São Paulo’s vibrant party scene and taking vogue classes and contemporary dance. Although now based in Paris, she organised some of São Paulo’s first trans-led parties as part of the Chernobyl. Since his earliest days in the scene, Amsterdam’s electronic music pioneer Steve Rachmad has created a legion of monikers to cover the variety and broadness of his compositions. Black Scorpion, Tons of Tones, Rachmad Project, Scorp, Parallel 9, Ignacio, Dreg, Sterac Electronics; they all represent a different facet of Rachmad’s music. One of the main creatures living on Planet Rachmad has always been STERAC, a side of Steve’s musical personality that’s not easily described. Let’s say that where other aliases are used for excursions to more dub-, disco-, or house- oriented records, STERAC’s focus has always been on the no-nonsense, darker, and deeper side of techno. The STERAC discography consists of signature cuts, spread out over genre-defining labels such as M-Plant, Tresor, Klockworks, Afterlife, Mote Evolver, Indigo Aera and Delsin. Over the years it’s been reinterpreted, remixed, and reworked by peers such as Ricardo Villalobos, Vince Watson and Marc Romboy. The work rarely fits current trends or pushes through to the absolute top of subjective charts. Rather it simmers, always ready to spark the rise of new generations, parties, and artists’ careers within the musical biotope we all love. His effort and independent attitude have made STERAC a regular on many a stage. “As both a creative and model, Arewà has become a vital voice at the intersection of trans identity, Black aesthetics, and futurist performance.”

the whole biography
As both a creative and model, Arewà has become a vital voice at the intersection of trans identity, Black aesthetics, and futurist performance. On her Archive EP (2026) Arewà weaves together ambient soul, experimental R&B, and new-wave gospel into a Black trans folk-sound all her own, crafting an emotional cartography of ancestry and becoming. The EP includes previously released songs “Fluid,” “I’ll Wait,” and “Crystal,” and moves through a dreamlike arrangement of analog synths, layered harmonies, and ambient percussion, centering Arewà’s hypnotic voice as both witness and instrument. “I wanted the project to serve as a record of everything I’ve been through as an artist, a performer, and person – not as an act of nostalgia, but as proof,” Arewà says. “It’s about making peace with the versions of myself that never got to speak, and hold up my own experiences as a mirror for the listener.” “The project came from a need to preserve what I couldn’t find anywhere else: my own joy, my own contradictions, my own archive,” says Arewà. “It’s a living document, and it’s still being written.” Arewà’s musical work arrives amid a wave of international recognition across art, fashion, and performance. Many fans first got to know Arewà on the groundbreaking eighth season of MTV’s Are You the One in 2019. In 2024, she was immortalized in a celebrated portrait by artist Amy Sherald titled “Trans Forming Liberty” as part of her “American Sublime” exhibition, which debuted at SF MoMA and traveled to New York’s Whitney Museum and the Baltimore Museum of Art. Arewà’s portrait was featured on the cover of The New Yorker in summer 2025 after it faced potential censorship in a planned exhibition at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.. In the fall of 2025, Arewà was featured in the cast of the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production Prince F*****, continuing to explore themes of queer embodiment and liberation on stage. She also appears in Geena Rocero’s short film Dolls (2025), executive produced by Lily Wachowski (The Matrix), which is currently on the festival circuit, further expanding Arewà’s presence across film and performance. Whether on stage, on screen, in fashion and beauty campaigns, or through her sonic endeavors, Arewà’s practice offers a radical invitation to witness transformation in real time.often with HOUND, BUSTER KEATON, Ayanna Ife, none of them here that night
