Their sets are versatile yet discerning, featuring shimmery house, global bass, and deconstructed club, punctuated with bad bitch rap and layers of textural percussion. A co-founder of ABEG NYC, a collective by and for queer Africans, and SLICK DOWN, a DJ collective, label, and staple Brooklyn club night centered around electronic music’s roots in Black culture, Simisola is dedicated to connecting QTPOC communities through music and event curation. In addition to hosting HYPNOSIS, a quarterly party which pays homage to their disco roots, Simisola frequently performs at popular venues across NYC, including The Lot Radio, Paragon, and Bossa Nova Civic Club, and is a resident on 8Ball Radio. (Words by Flip Zang)Recently at Metropolitan Bar, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Elsewhere · often with Love Higher, wahala.wav, SLICK DOWN, none of them here that night
“Now based in Brooklyn, this project serves as a vehicle to explore a wide spectrum of dance music, from classic Chicago jacking sound to the more undefinable rhythms that permeate the clubs around the neighborhood.”
