After getting her start performing at underground poetry events in her hometown, she eventually moved on to playing live beat sets during open mic nights at one of KC's most pivotal queer nightlife institutions of the 21st century, the Uptown Arts Bar. Occasionally she'd wander upstairs to Niche, a 100-cap club with a legendary sound system known as the Meta HiFi. There she got her first taste of the sounds of the UK bass continuum and the LA beat scene, with its prominent figureheads like Flying Lotus, Ras G and Shlohmo. Ever the nomad, she would spend her mid-twenties traveling, flitting between cities like New York and LA and the mountainous terrain of the Colorado Rockies. At 26 years old, she left behind a stable career in psychotherapy to pursue her creative dreams. This would lead her back to Niche where a ravenous desire to evolve as an artist connected her with Peter Anthony, aka Coughman, who ran the independent KC collective and label, Intelligent Sound. Soon Anthony encouraged Zo and her friends Mazzy Mann and Lorelei Kretsinger to build a platform of their own. In October 2017, the three of them founded the UN/TUCK queer/trans collective and record label. Over the next two years, they tirelessly built UN/TUCK into an internationally recognized platform, releasing their own music and organizing shows and parties curated specifically for trans and queer people in Kansas City. Under the name BTRFLY, Zo produced her own LA-inspired beats and rapped over them in her sets. As she delved further into the realms of Chicago house, early 2000s UK dubstep, and the hybrid sounds of Hessle Audio, Hyperdub and Idle Hands, she discovered a profound love for DJing and a different kind of production. Now based in Brooklyn, she has made definitive creative statements in 2022, releasing her debut EP, Screw Cheek, on acclaimed UK club label, Scuffed Recordings, and a follow-up EP, Freak Shift, on Martyn's hallowed 3024 imprint, as well as a slew of national bookings at Bunker NY, Texture Detroit, Sole Rehab, clubs like Nowadays, Good Room and Kremwerk, festivals like Slingshot and Honcho Campout and many more on the horizon. It's clear that Zo has solidified her place as an emerging artist firmly in her own lane, with tracks that span the continuum of UK bass and North American techno and house, and mixes that seamlessly capture and defy her genres of interest, blending deep dark percussive bass and broken beat with blistering techno, psychedelic house, east coast club and more.Techno on 24, Bass Music on 22, Breaks on 17 and House on 17. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on Clasico Records (2) (1), Delusional Records (2) (1) and Grid (6) (1); their RA profile also lists Pineapple Records, 3024, Fever AM, Scuffed Recordings and 1 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Bossa Nova Civic Club, Mood Ring, BASEMENT · often with Mui Mui, Sheepshead, Saia, none of them here that night
“2025 Artist Bio Markus is a DJ and producer based in Brooklyn, New York.”

the whole biography
2025 Artist Bio Markus is a DJ and producer based in Brooklyn, New York. Markus is known for his versatility, playing a variety of genres including EBM, House, Italo, 80s Darkwave, Breaks, and more. However, he is most renowned for his unique blend of old school electro and new school brolectro, with a distinctive touch of lesbian techno. Born to Palestinian immigrant parents in Las Vegas, he grew up in the suburbs during the 90s, where he developed a deep appreciation for 90s R&B music. In middle school, he discovered trance via Napster and limewire, igniting his passion for electronic music. Markus's move to San Francisco marked a significant turning point in his musical journey. Immersing himself in the city's vibrant underground dance scene, he learned from the renowned Honey Soundsystem, a queer collective, and the iconic Club Lonely. He also became obsessed with the local garage rock scene and perhaps his most significant musical inspiration, Beach House. In 2010, Markus co-founded the indie chillwave band Seatraffic with his friend Brandon Harrison. As the band's synth player and vocalist, Markus contributed to their unique sound, leading to several successful releases over five years. During this period, Markus found his true self on the dance floor, forming his first queer friendships and feeling a profound sense of belonging. This community became his family and played a crucial role in shaping his identity. Inspired by artists like early Grimes and Purity Ring, Markus began producing his own crossover tracks. However, his career as an architectural professional meant that music took a secondary role for a time. Just before the COVID-19 pandemic, Markus received his first pair of turntables from his then-boyfriend, now best-friend, Dylan. This gift ignited his passion for DJing, and during lockdown, he honed his skills as a bedroom DJ, playing at the lockdown afters with friends. Markus's most influential mentor, Robert Yang (Bezier), introduced him to Ouissam, of Savage Club Hanoi and the founder of Equation Festival in Vietnam. Ouissam challenged Markus to perform at the Rave Cave during Equation Festival 2023. Markus prepared a new live set and made his comeback after a five-year hiatus, performing original productions like "Want It Back" and "With Your Girlfriends," two tracks deeply rooted in the original sounds of Detroit Electro of the 90s, with a San Francisco and Dutch sprinkling of EBM on top. On the same trip, Markus celebrated his birthday at Savage Hanoi, where he was asked to replace Sedaf Adassi, who had to cancel due to COVID-19. This unexpected opportunity led to Markus's first DJ gig at one of Asia's most prestigious clubs. Back in Brooklyn, Markus continued to build his reputation, performing at venues like Bossa Nova Civic Club and participating in fundraisers for Palestine. Later he eventually secured regular gigs at Basement, where he plays in both the Main Room and the multi-genre-focused Studio. In 2024, Markus embarked on his first DJ tour in Asia, performing at renowned clubs such as .Tag, Pawnshop, Heim, and returning to Savage in Hanoi. This year, he will debut at Nowadays for their 24-hour party, nonstop, alongside Lena Wilkens and Vladimir Ivkovic. Markus is also set to perform at this year's Wire Festival at the Knockdown Center in May and make his European debut at Herrensauna's CSD Party in July.Recently at Green Room NYC, BASEMENT, Paragon · often with Makadsi, FASHION, Kilopatrah Jones, none of them here that night
“Some DJs burst upon the scene like a supernova, fading just as quickly.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Some DJs burst upon the scene like a supernova, fading just as quickly. Others take years, even decades, to make their way—but those are the ones who make the most impact, thanks to a lifetime of accumulated musical wisdom. Mike Servito is a prime example of the latter. His career is one that’s defined by a slow and steady rise to upper ranks of the deejaying realm—and along the way, he’s perfected a jacking style that equal parts house, acid and techno, a sound that pays homage to the past while being very much of-the-moment. A Detroit-area native, Servito got his early education by tuning into the Electrifying Mojo and the Wizard (Jeff Mill’s radio moniker). By the early ’90s, Servito was primed to try his hand at the deejaying arts, “I was just kind of cocky about it,” he says. “I knew I could do it.” And he was right—in the DJ hotbed of Detroit, internalizing knowledge gleamed from the likes of Mike Huckaby and Claude Young, he kept working at it until he established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the Motor City circuit, eventually becoming a member in good standing with the inner circle of Ghostly International. But Servito felt the need for a change from the sometimes insular environment of Detroit. By the late ’00s, he was living in NYC with no real game plan in place. As it turned out, he didn’t really need one—he soon fell in with the city’s premier techno party, The Bunker, becoming one of its mainstay residents. Around the same time, he was beginning to make his presence known on a global scale, packing dance floors with gigs around the States and around the world. But it was a hometown festival snub in 2014 that really got things going. Servito had played Movement once before, in 2011. “And between then and 2014,” he recalls, “I had been playing so many Bunker parties, playing so many great gigs and my profile was rising—so I was sure they would book me again.” The invite never came. Instead, he booked himself at every Movement after-party he could, one of which was the annual No Way Back, a legendary throw down hosted by The Bunker New York and Detroit’s Interdimensional Transmissions label. The set, a riotously sweaty bleeps-and-beats affair, was recorded for posterity; unexpectedly but deservedly, it garnered a nod as the year’s No 1 online Mix of the Year on Resident Advisor. That was the spark that set Servito’s career aflame, the push that took him to the top. Since then, he’s cemented his status as one of the most respected spinners around, regularly manning the decks at such hallowed halls as Berlin’s Panorama Bar, London’s XOYO and Tokyo’s Contact, not to mention the world’s best festivals—including, of course Movement. And to this day, his approach to deejaying is refreshingly simple: “I really don’t think about it,” he says, “When I’m playing, I just dive in, and I’m OK.” He’s far more than okay—he’s one of the best around.Techno on 7, Acid on 5, House on 5 and Acid House on 3. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on The Bunker New York (2) and Interdimensional Transmissions (1); their RA profile also lists Firehouse and Honey Soundsystem. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at H0L0, Good Room, BASEMENT · often with Shaun J. Lauren Flax has been a lifelong musician, starting to play the drums at 8 years old before continuing on to guitar and bass in high school. She began her DJ career in the underground dance and rave scenes of Detroit as a resident at the Motor Lounge, playing every Tuesday night along with resident DJs Mike Servito, DJ Dilemma, Jason Kendig, and Derek Plaslaiko. Flax played the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 on the Motor stage. While originally starting off as a jungle DJ, Flax evolved her style into a variety techno, house, and electro music. Flax moved to Chicago in 1999, where she honed in on music production while continuing to DJ. By 2002, she relocated again to Manhattan, which shortly followed the release of her first remix, "Much Finer" for Le Tigre. In 2018, Flax was introduced to DJ Haus by fellow Detroit musician and friend Jimmy Edgar, to which he quickly signed a record, resulting in "Dance Trax Vol. 16" (2018). In 2019, Flax joined the mostly Detroit-born New York collective The Bunker New York,[1] on which she released "One Man’s House is Another Woman’s Techno EP" (2019). The EP was highly successful and sold out quickly. Flax met with Brooklyn-based record label 2MR in 2019, curious to explore beyond the realm of dance music. She remixed 'Breathe' by label-mate Pale Blue, and that ended up inspiring Flax's new style of music. After the remix was released, Flax took to writing a 6 track EP, merging genres of ambient, acid house, and much more, set to come out in Summer 2021. Flax started touring the United States and Europe as a solo artist in 2019, performing live analog sets, pushing the boundaries of what a DJ is defined as.House on 39, Techno on 22, Acid House on 13 and Electro on 17. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on WRKTRX (3), Aliens On Wax (1) and House Of Efunk Records (1); their RA profile also lists Defected Records, !K7, Toolroom Records, Nervous Records and 6 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Paragon, Bossa Nova Civic Club, H0L0 · often with Sevyn 0000, Austin Kunis, Costume Design, none of them here that night
