Villager is a project from prodigious DMV-based producer Alex Young, permeating the globe since its inception, with support from Four Tet, Jamie XX, Bonobo, Floating Points, A-Trak, Jacques Greene, Salute, Bicep, and with five EP releases on label imprints via Boys Noize and Chloe Robinson. Now 27, at age 15 Alex Young was performing at EDC and touring with Skrillex, Diplo, and Cashmere Cat under the previous project bearing his name. This year, Villager has supported Sammy Virji and Barry Can’t Swim and is now poised for a global tour run on the strength of his recent releases. In a print interview from 2022, Future Music Magazine described Villager’s sound as “taking cues from the richly textured electronica of artists like Four Tet and Jon Hopkins, repurposing club rhythms into detailed, emotive music that rewards closer listening.” Released February 16, 2024, Villager’s latest EP Sculptor exemplifies this and is a crowning achievement in his young but storied career. The response to the EP during the weekend of its release included over a dozen editorial playlists across DSPs, over 6,000 Spotify playlist adds, a top 20 Beatport chart position, and personal co-signs from Flying Lotus and A-Trak -- all signs that Villager has made an impact with this most recent project. Alex’s tracks, journey, and creative process have been chronicled by The Fader, BBC’s Maryanne Hobbs, Magnetic Magazine, Music Radar, Future Music, Mojo Magazine, and Willy Joy’s Back-To-Back Podcast. Born and raised in New Orleans, now living in Brooklyn, Leonce is uncompromising, blending elements of American Urban and Experimental Electronica, a hardline style that influenced his development as a producer. He co-founded the infamous Club Morph in 2016 and its electronic-hybrid imprint label Morph Tracks. DJs supporting Leonce’s tracks have included DJ Holographic, Fred again, Mochakk, Virgil Abloh, Honey Dijon, Brodinski, Pangaea, Midland, Moxie, Joy Orbison, Leon Vynehall, Seth Troxler, Ben UFO, and The Carry Nation. 2023 was a banner year for Leonce, producing and headlining Atlanta’s Boiler Room in April, and then going on to tour in London, Berlin, Milan, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Barcelona. In August, Leonce supported the Atlanta tour stop on Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour, playing to a crowd of 70,000 in Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium. In October, Leonce remixed Kai Alcé and Ash Lauryn’s ‘Underground & Black’ and teamed up with British-Ghanaian artist Karen Nyame KG on the track ‘Nightryde,’ which featured in DJ Mag and Mixmag. November saw Leonce share the Elsewhere Main Stage in New York with Boys Noize. Spring 2024 brought the release of Leonce's debut album 'System of Objects,' which received a glowing review on RA. In May 2024, Leonce embarked on another EU headline run, followed up by single releases on LuckyMe and Nervous Records. To cap off 2024, Leonce supported Fred Again two nights in a row at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena. His music featured on two year-end lists via RA's Best 25 Tracks of 2024 & DJ Mag's Top Albums of 2024. This year, Leonce has continued to tour at a frenetic pace, including debuts at Glastonbury and Under The K Bridge.
