Astrologically speaking, it’s said that water signs are characterized by their intuition, sensitivity and depth of emotion. John Silas’s work is innately imbued with these qualities. Composed of four original tracks (along with two additional mixes), the producer and instrumentalist’s debut EP, Water Sign, is largely joyously attuned to the dance. Yet these compositions diverge into moments of quieter introspection evocative of a kind of personal chronicle. For John, who’s seen more than his share of nomadic movement buoyed by periods of meditative creativity, it’s a reflection of lived experience: a journey that’s synthesized the influences of childhood Soul Train episodes, adolescent hip-hop sample spotting, tutelage on the MPC2000XL, collaboration with extended family within the Detroit dance music community, record shop clerkdom, and his current citizenship on the planet of nouveau Brooklyn. Over the past decade, the New York-based artist has quietly amassed a loyal following through expansive DJ sets that defy genre & style - a testament to his deep crates and skilled mixing. Originally from Singapore, Marco co-runs the Darker Than Wax record label & is a weekly resident on The Lot Radio in Brooklyn. Coming out of a busy 2024, with mixes / features on Resident Advisor (“a true digger’s delight”), DJ Mag and XLR8R (“a mix that’ll suck you in wherever you are”), he’s hit a stride with appearances across the US / Europe and Asia at clubs and parties like Nowadays (NYC), Public Records (NYC), Wonderfruit Festival (Thailand), Dimensions Festival (Croatia), Rhythm Section (London), Potato Head (Bali). Marco explores old and new underground styles in the spirit of educating and entertaining dancers, unafraid to jump between Obscure Disco to 90s House, Detroit Techno to Jungle, you’ll have to come along for the ride to hear what’s next. A Brooklyn resident since 2002, Mickey represents & presents a non-commercial, diasporic sound irrespective of national borders spanning many different styles of dance music across Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Brasil & Black America. Mickey currently has a regular monthly show on NYC's The Lot Radio titled BeBop Porú which runs concurrently as a monthly to bi-monthly dance party in Brooklyn, Mexico City & Miami. In 2022, Mickey launched a community based summer music series for all ages with Toribio (Conclave/BDA) called Public Service that runs monthly across neighborhood parks in Bed-Stuy & Bushwick in Brooklyn. In addition to playing regularly throughout Brooklyn, NYC; Mickey's also rocked crowds abroad in London, Montreal, Toronto, Almaty, Kazakhstan, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Bogotá & Medellín in Colombia as well as Havana in Cuba in addition to doing his thing in Philadelphia, DC, St. Louis, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Las Vegas & Miami nationally in the United States. Co-founded by Barbie Bertisch and Paul Raffaele in 2015 as a monthly print fanzine, Love Injection’s continued multi-faceted expansion and evolution reflects the ongoing process of celebrating people and culture, seeking to fill in the gaps of dance music and nightlife culture’s untold stories and histories, and bring new perspectives to familiar ones. The pair host the Love Injection radio show on NYC’s beloved online radio institution, The Lot Radio, on the air every Saturday morning since February 2016.This sonic extension of Love Injection the print fanzine provides the duo, and their occasional esteemed guest hosts, the latitude to explore sounds unrestricted by the demands of the nocturnal dance floor. The newest branch of the Love Injection family tree is its record label, Love Injection Records. Conceptually, the label lives and operates with similarly fluid aesthetics, with one foot in the dance world and one outside of it.
