Pete Dougherty (aka Moon Boots) was born in Brooklyn and spent his adolescence in the suburbs. Early formative musical memories include hearing MFSB’s “Love Is The Message” at block parties. Cut to high school years jamming along to Daft Punk in the barn with a blacklight on. After studying classical and jazz composition in college, Pete moved to Chicago, the birthplace of house music. He spent years honing his skills as a remixer and DJ and in late 2011, Moon Boots was born. The alias began taking shape with a series of releases for French Express. The label provided Pete with a platform, and he quickly leveled up his craft while touring around the world and eventually moving back to Brooklyn. The first Moon Boots album, First Landing, arrived in 2017 on Anjunadeep, followed two years later by Bimini Road, and then in 2023 by Ride Away. As with his DJ sets, each album blends elements of house, disco, and R&B with a crate’s worth of musical influences. The three records were widely embraced, amassing over 100 million streams. Moon Boots has played everywhere from dimly lit clubs and warehouse parties to massive festivals. Pinto has gained support from some of the industry elites including Riva Starr, Todd Terry, Sidney Charles, Danny Howard, Paco Osuna, Roger Sanchez, Sam Paganini, Junior Sanchez, Low Steppa, Golf Clap, David Penn, Klangkuenstler, J Paul Getto, Demiur and more. With no sign of slowing down, 2018 was off to a great start. Pinto’s album “Where I’m From” on Nervous Records jumped all the way up to the #2 spot on the Traxsource top 100 album charts! Pinto also has forthcoming releases coming to Brobot Records, SOUP , King Street, Latenight Jackin, and more! Keeping with his mission to share premier musical pieces Pinto also takes extreme pride in billing on the city’s most prolific venues such as Space Ibiza NY, Pacha NYC, and Webster Hall just to name a few. Beyond his NY exposure, Pinto has made appearances in cities such San Francisco, Tampa, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Diego and more. Pinto has also played sets internationally in countries such as England, Netherlands, Mexico, Ecuador, Puerto Rico & St Maarten.
