Few labels left a mark on underground house music quite like Cécille Records. Founded in Mannheim, Germany by Nick Curly and Marc Scholl in 2008, the imprint became a defining force of the late 2000s, championing a sound built on groove, musicality, and movement at a time when minimal techno dominated much of Europe. Alongside artists such as SiS, Markus Fix, Robert Dietz, Johnny D, and Butch, Cécille helped shape what became known as the Mannheim Sound, earning widespread acclaim from DJs, dancers, and critics alike.
On August 2, that legacy arrives at Superior Ingredients as Nick Curly brings his celebrated Cécille event series to Brooklyn for a special rooftop session.
As both a producer and label founder, Curly has spent more than fifteen years at the forefront of underground house music. Through Cécille and sister label 8Bit Records, he has introduced generations of artists while maintaining a catalog defined by depth, soul, and dance floor functionality. His own productions, including releases on Defected and a long list of respected imprints, have made him a fixture at clubs and festivals across Europe, the Americas, and beyond.
Joining him is New York house institution Harry Romero. A key figure in the city's dance music history, Romero's catalog stretches across decades, with influential releases on Subliminal, Defected, Toolroom, and Saved Records. His work helped shape the sound of modern New York house while earning him a place among the genre's most respected DJs and producers.
Also on the bill is Andrew Azara, one of the most promising names emerging from the current minimal and underground house scene. The Irish born, Barcelona based producer has built a strong reputation through releases on Cécille, Djebali, Politics of Dancing, Microhertz, and Moan. His recent EP Right On Time on Cécille reached the top of the Beatport charts, adding another milestone to a growing discography supported by artists including Jamie Jones, PAWSA, The Martinez Brothers, Archie Hamilton, and ANOTR.
Completing the lineup are local favorites GENPOP and aazure, representing Brooklyn's thriving underground community and setting the tone for a day that bridges generations of house music culture.
From one of the most influential labels of its era to artists continuing to shape today's dance floors, this rooftop gathering brings together a lineup deeply connected to the past, present, and future of underground house music.

Who they are
“Nick Curly has now been defining the sound of the underground for ten whole years.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Nick Curly has now been defining the sound of the underground for ten whole years. The varied and vital artist has established a number of labels in that time, including the era-defining Cecille Records. Currently he is focused on 8Bit, which continues to grow from strength to strength, as an outlet for fresh house and tech. 2017, then, is sure to be another landmark year. By now, Curly has a refined signature sound that keeps people dancing all over the world. His productions continue to come on esteemed labels like Truesoul, Drumcode and Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep in Sound, and he remains an in-demand remixer – recent work taking in Pan Pot’s Second State and for the legendary duo Stephane K and John Creamer, with an appearance due on 'Saved' for hot newcomer Emanuel Satie slated for spring. His DJ schedule takes in hundreds of gigs each year, all over the world, with year on year growth showing no signs of slowing down. 2016 was a superb year, yet 2017 already includes confirmed appearances at Heart Miami, Ministry of Sound, TimeWarp Mannheim, Crobar Buenos Aires, Warung Beach Club and festival plays at Hideout, Sonus, Eastern Electrics, and many more. More recently Nick has been heading up his own party brand, Trust. Now a few years old, it continues to go from strength to strength and really brings something fresh to each city it lands in. As well as a bi-annual residency at Watergate in Berlin, Trust host parties at high profile places like Sonus Festival and BPM, always with a tasteful selection of headliners who fit in with Nick’s unique vision for the party. The future is as bright as the past for this DJ, producer, party curator and A&R. After great releases in 2016 that roamed from house to techno and back again, always with an assured sense of quality, Nick has a new EP on his own 8Bit due in April, with new records lined-up every six to eight weeks from the German production machine. 2017 is lining up to be another record breaker for this essential pillar of the underground dance scene.Their RA profile lists Cocoon Recordings, Akbal Music, Cécille Records, 8bit and 6 more.Recently at Eden, Superior Ingredients · often with Armii1n, SECR3T KEY, EREZ.JPG, none of them here that night
“In the beginning, jack had a groove.”
their own biography
the whole biography
In the beginning, jack had a groove. And thanks to heavyweight house heroes like Harry Romero, that groove is now back. “My love of house came from the culture,” explains Jersey’s finest from his studio headquarters in The Butchashop. Harry, in case you missed the musical memo, is a humble house music legend with classic club cuts like ‘Tania’, ‘Night @ The Black’ and ‘I Go Back’ with Robert Owens under his belt, but really that’s just the tip of the iceberg as his current catalogue will attest. Harry’s 2021 saw releases and remixes on labels from Crosstown Rebels to Hot Creations and Classic Recordings, and 2022 will see him release on Defected for the first time since the mighty ‘Revolution’: and just wait until you hear who he has on vocals! (She’s house music royalty and that sums it up.) See, from then to now, Harry represents one thing: and that’s pure quality. His inspirations growing up tell the same story. From the mid to late 80s he listened to Tony Humphreys on the radio and followed Todd Terry, Masters At Work and Fingers Inc. So, with the full backing of Simon Dunmore and Luke Solomun at Defected and Classic, it’s now Harry’s time to shine. He released the Kölsch/Pete Tong approved (not to mention the Beatport-trouncing, Afro-House number one) ‘Afro Horn’ on Crosstown Rebels, as well as remixes of ‘Tania’ from Honey Dijon and remixes of his own for Jack Back and CeCe Rogers and Danny Tenaglia. Friends for (club) life, his Danny Tenaglia association with ‘Don’t Turn Your Back’ on Hot Creations was a major success: he remixed alongside Mendo and the mighty Carl Cox. He also found time to chat to Honey Dijon to discuss their incredible respective careers in house and released on Cecille with ‘Mood Vision’, a singular and super-distinctive house instrumental that was supported by Honey Dijon and Luciano alike and was another Beatport success. With the epic and spiritual sequel to ‘Afro Horn’, ‘It’s You’ having now dropped, we can also now reveal that he’s working on Honey Dijon’s new album. In short, he has become the go-to remixer for house remixes once again and there’s plenty more ahead. So what’s his ethos now? Simple! To wave his own flag. “I know what I’m capable of in the studio and behind the decks. Harry 2.0, this is my renaissance! “ He’s had a career that now runs across two decades but also recognizes that “this is a rebirth, not a remix.” It’s also about reaching a new generation with a catalogue that speaks for itself. “’Tania’ is still being played by Loco Dice and Luciano. It’s not easy to do something with ‘Tania’, he notes. “Obviously, what Honey Dijon handed in was unbelievable. She knows the original from Danny Tenaglia playing it in the city and she made it harder and tougher while also being something standing on its own.” Make no mistake, 2021 and 2022 may be a crazy world but we’re coming out of the dark and Harry’s steered his way through with skill and dexterity.Their RA profile lists Defected Records, Ovum Recordings, King Street Sounds, Slip n Slide and 6 more.Recently at SILO, Brooklyn Army Terminal, Moonrise · often with Barris Fishman, Stixx, Green Velvet, none of them here that night
