Since throwing her first party in 2015 and putting out her stellar debut EP, Electrical Encounters, on Peach Discs two years later, the Xi’an, China-born and Toronto, Canada- based Ciel has blazed a path as one of the hardest-working and most innovative artists in electronic music. Solo production highlights since Electrical Encounters include Hundred Flowers on Coastal Haze, Why Me? on Ghostly’s Spectral Sound, Orlando on !K7 Records, Ecstatic Editions vol. 1, the premiere release on Eris Drew’s vinyl-only label, and her pièce de résistance; the 2023 debut album Homesick, which she toured live internationally in 2024. Collaboratively, Ciel’s efforts are just as impressive, from the intricate, delicate Free EP with Kilig to the subterranean, propulsive Lunagenesis with Priori as Loopchasers. Excursions in bass and breaks with Dan Only as Cloudsteppers and murky, doofy cuts with CCL (on Tilda’s Goat Stare) and D.Tiffany (as Psychedelic Budz) further demonstrate Ciel’s versatility and seemingly boundless imagination, as do inventive remixes for the likes of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Jacques Greene, Seb Wildblood, Off the Meds and Adam Pits. An adventurous selector adept at stitching together disparate styles and genres, Ciel has played at some of the world’s most celebrated venues including fabric, Robert Johnson, De School, Hot Mass, Smartbar, Berghain Panorama Bar and Nowadays, and at beloved festivals such as Draaimolen, Dimensions, Movement Detroit and MUTEK. A typical DJ set might move through dreamy downtempo, wiggly tech house, psychedelic techno, UK bass, slamming speed garage, and hardgroove to work through a diverse range of dancefloors and moods, from deep and trippy to unabashedly euphoric. Community-minded and deeply principled, Ciel has always supported and promoted colleagues and causes she believes in and is currently organizing with Toronto’s chapter of Writers Against the War on Gaza. Shawn Dub is a seasoned DJ and collector with deep crates. Hailing from Long Beach, California, He moved to NYC a few years ago after a stint in the Bay Area where he was a vital member of the underground scene. DJ, producer, compiler, and label operator Jerome Derradji started spinning records at the age of 15 and was, at first, inspired most by jazz and soul. During the tail-end of the '90s, house music caught his ears. In 2000, he moved from his native France to Chicago, Illinois and worked at record store Dr. Wax as an import buyer. Derradji established Still Music in 2004 as an outlet for the music he felt wasn't getting enough support. Within a few years, Still released singles and albums by producers from all over the planet, though the label had a special affinity for Detroiters with releases by the likes of Rick Wilhite, Delano Smith. As Derradji's reach extended to reissuing obscure disco, funk, and house, executing his own re-edits, and supporting additional musicians, he set up Past Due Records, Stilove4music and Still Techno as sublabels. He also took on more ambitious projects, beginning with The American Boogie Down -- a two-disc package, released in 2008 on BBE, that featured his DJ mix of material he had reissued, along with a disc of unmixed selections. Extensive later compilations released on Still, including 122 BPM: The Birth of House Music, Kill Yourself Dancing: The Story of Sunset Records Inc., Bang the Box!: The (Lost) Story of AKA Dance Music, and The House That Jackmaster Hater Built, were deep dives into the rich dance music history of his adopted hometown. Jerome's own productions and edits have been played by The Chemical Brothers, Dj Harvey, Laurent Garnier, Ben UFO, Marcel Dettmann, Norman Nodge, Rolando, Floating Points, DVS1, Dan Curtin, Skream, Gilles Peterson and many others.
