From its origins as an intimate camp-out in the hills of Shizuoka, Japan, the storied Rainbow Disco Club has built its legacy slowly and intentionally over the past 17 years, becoming one of the most sought-after dance events across Asia and Europe. The RDC crew takes the reins for this week’s Nonstop, with a roster of selectors from near and far weaving the legacies of techno, house, and disco into one seamless and timeless sonic tapestry.
DJ Healthy kicks off the evening festivities, the NYC/Tokyo mainstay conjuring throbbing deep forest dub shrouded in intoxicating atmospheric haze. Tokyo RDC veteran Kikiorix takes over the peak time slot with classic disco cuts that fully embody the festival’s founding principle of interconnected timelessness. And celebrated Detroit DJ and producer LADYMONIX, fresh from a new release on her label Frizner Electric, brings funky horns and heart-lifting house chords to carry us through the twilight hours.
At sunrise, Kilopatrah Jones takes control with a soulful foray into their bag of bouncing basslines and classic club cuts, solidifying their esteemed station as a Nowadays resident. Isaac Carter arrives from London in the morning hours, soft pads and silky vocals flowing like ambrosia through a pumping deep house chillout sesh. And in the afternoon, veteran Detroit DJ and record producer Rick Wilhite sends us home with a masterclass of smoothed-out grooves and jazzy house funk that spans his three decades of tastemaking in the Motor City.

Born and raised in Queens, a city dweller and a club kid, Kilopatrah has an innate and superlative gift for transferring energy from the booth to the dance floor—through exciting house, techno, and jungle, and moments that both harken to Sound Factory–era glory days and bring you to sweaty BPMs of the future. Their sets are palpably personal: The dance floor has always been a powerful platform for expression for Kilo, once as a freeing and connecting space for a quiet house dancer and now as one for moving others like them. When Kilo gets going, you’ll lose sense of the kick drum versus the beat of your own body against the floor. That’s a gift from them to you, and your percussion is a gift back to them. Kilo brings their energetic sass to a monthly Lot Radio residency and to parties with impressive lineups, playing alongside Todd Terry home in New York, at the legendary Movement weekend Club Toilet in Detroit, and for Boiler Room. Their mixes, for series such as Coloring Lessons, Honcho, and Juanita’s, and for spots on Rinse and Refuge, also capture the club at its most euphoric. You’ll step a little harder with Kilopatrah Jones. Words by Sacha MadadianRecently at Paragon, Nowadays, BASEMENT · often with Mike Servito, Dee Diggs, Annie Lew, none of them here that night

A Detroit native, Rick learned at an early age that a career in music takes more than playing one’s favorite records. Multi-faceted crowd control, sound engineering and creative party promotion are what make him more than a Detroit DJ. With over two decades experience in playing clubs and parties 24-7, 365 makes the Godson one of Detroit’s best and most versatile DJ’s around. His venture to college in the south to Southern University allowed his skills to take the region to another level of Music. His DJ styles of House, Techno, Rap and R&B helped change the black college music scene across America. Beginning in high school, Wilhite also battled in contests against other well-respected DJ’s. He still impresses audiences today, and retains his undefeated status in the DJ community. A 30+year professional within the music industry, Wilhite adds Music Historian, Salesperson, and Promoter to his list of accomplishments. During the 80’s Wilhite worked for Buy Rite Music, which was one of the premiere record stores in the Midwest. Buy-Rite specialized in servicing the DJ as opposed to having the DJ serving himself. During the late 80's early 90’s, he soon became one of the most sought-after music professionals in the industry. Equipped with a keen ear for quality music, he embarked on a path of self-proprietorship. He opened The House of Music in downtown Detroit. As well the record store, Vibes New and Rare Music. Throughout his music career, Wilhite has performed for numerous international and stateside venues. He has gone by a host of names: DOC, Tech-12, Working Mixx, and most recently The Godson. Interestingly enough, each alias describes and symbolizes his relationship to his craft. He has established successful working relationships with city officials, journalists, and media personalities; and has befriended many music artists. Influenced by Detroit’s legendary pool of musicians, he entered production studios at the early age of eleven. He began remixing records in 1986 with the group NASA. Additionally, Wilhite worked alongside many electronic music pioneers, such as Juan Atkins and Derrick May. In recent years, Wilhite has established a bond with fellow musicians Marcellus Pittman, Kenny Dixon Jr. and Theo Parrish’ now known as the 3 Chairs.Their RA profile lists Third Ear Recordings, KDJ, Rush Hour Music, Stilove4music and 4 more.Recently at Dead Letter No. 9, public records · often with Shawn Dub, Kiyoshi, Omer Mil, none of them here that night
