Who they are
“Moodymann worked at several Detroit record stores in the mid-nineties including a store owned by producer Blake Baxter.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Moodymann worked at several Detroit record stores in the mid-nineties including a store owned by producer Blake Baxter. During the mid-nineties Kenny was also the resident DJ at the Detroit based Outcast Motorcycle Club. At that time he was known as "House". After his first several releases on Planet E Records Kenny became quite popular in France and from there his popularity grew. Moodymann sound is a hybrid form of techno/house dance music arrived at via innovative use of reworked riffs, samples and grooves. While he may frustrate people with his refusal to be interviewed and insistence on reminding people of the genre's origins, the soulfulness of his output is unquestioned. Utilizing classic soul and jazz samples, low-slung bass lines and an approach to drum programming that is diametrically opposed to the tendency to push the tempo faster and faster, he has achieved classic status thanks to gems like "Sunday Morning", "Shades of Jae", and his remix of Innerzone Orchestra's "People Make the World Go Round". Following years of 12" only releases, he compiled his best work on "Silentintroduction", one of the most celebrated albums of the late 90s.Their RA profile lists Peacefrog, Planet E, KDJ and Mahogani Music.Recently at Superior Ingredients, Xanadu, Le Bain · often with Tony Touch, Eli Escobar, DJ Disciple, none of them here on Friday
“His passion for music all began when he grew up with soul/funk classics & Vinyl.”
their own biography
the whole biography
His passion for music all began when he grew up with soul/funk classics & Vinyl. His parents are funk & soul lovers, so Jaël started to embrace these vibes and wanted to make his own music. Jaël came into contact with the guitar, drums, keys and started to realize that playing music is his destiny. Playing instruments become second nature to him, but a few years later he was exploring some music programmes, and felt like making music on his old Windows PC. Jaël mixed his soul & funk feels with his electronic vibes and combined it with a touch of smoothness & Beats. His most favourite artists are: Sango, Anderson Paak, J-Dilla, Kaidi Tatham, DEGO, Steve Spacek, Domu, Butcher Brown, DJ Harrison, Mndsgn, Dwele, Slum Village, Erykah Badu, Flying Lotus, D'Angelo, DJ Rob Manga, Mayer Hawthorne, Kendrick Lamar, BJ The Chicago Kid and many more. As a Deejay he's still fully inspired by his uncle DJ Rob Manga. Jaël was growing into the dutch Deejay scene and came in contact with great names like Jarreau Vandal, Full Crate, The Flexican & also was booked at the biggest festivals in The Netherlands such as Latin Village & Eastville Festival. Currently, Jaël is searching and creating his own sound and is busy on his debut EP that is scheduled to drop in 2017. It contains influences of artists such as Bryson Tiller, D'Angelo & Anderson .Paak. In the past few years Jaël got really inspired by these soulfull artists. The EP contains acoustic songs & futuristic sounds. Jaël is known as a remixer/beatmaker/deejay, but he is also a singer. So be on the lookout for Jaël's vocals & instrumental sounds. Stay on his grind.Recently at public records, Elsewhere · often with Surf 2 Glory, Support, MALUGI, none of them here on Friday
“A lot of folks feel like they know DaM-FunK.”
their own biography
the whole biography
A lot of folks feel like they know DaM-FunK. He is affable and personable at gigs and online but to truly 'get' the guy - I mean really understand him - is to know a love of music like no other. If you're at all familiar with his sets - from Singapore to San Francisco, Moscow to Montreal - then you'd know he is one of the more generous DJ's touring today. Graciously sharing sounds and songs both rare and unique on the mic to packed clubs. If they aren't falling in love on the dance floor, they're by the bar scrambling to figure out what record he's playing. For a near daily reference, checking Dam's social-media feed is like stealing a glance through your favorite DJ's record bag while he's out for quick smoke. He makes a lifetime of digging and absorbing music feel as laid-back as the Santa Ana breeze. As a writer/producer Damon's credits run the expanse of genres. A perceptive remixer, his signature "Re-Freaks" have given new gleam to an impressive array of artists. Just some being: Disclosure, Animal Collective, Little Dragon, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Toro Y Moi, and more. His own vivid studio-visions have actualized stellar full-length albums with the likes of Snoop Dogg ('7 Days of Funk') and iconic Soul/Funk singer Steve Arrington of Slave ("Higher"). Dam is also known as a world renown performer, having consistently toured the globe since 2008. He's played numerous festivals, including Coachella, Movement, Glastonbury, Primavera, Pitchfork, Bonnaroo, Sasquatch!, Moog Fest, FYF, Fun Fun Fun Fest, Electric Forest, Taico Club (Japan), and many more. The forbearer of the 'Modern-Funk' movement - Dam's decade-strong Los Angeles based club-night 'Funkmosphere' has proven one of the city's most beloved weekly events.Their RA profile lists Stones Throw and Music From Memory.Recently at public records · often with Danilo Plessow, Omer Mil, Lefto Early Bird, none of them here on Friday
