Juliana Huxtable returns to BASEMENT following her all-night set in July. One of the great visionaries of modern club music, Huxtable uses the form as a site of peerless worldbuilding and relentless experimentation. Huxtable’s history in the fine arts - as a poet, visual artist and performer - informs her approach, subverting the typical templates and finding ever new ways to freak the system. There simply is no one in the world who does it quite like she does. We welcome her back. Anika Kunst makes the trip from Spain, landing in the room for the first time. The founder of the Selectors party series and Chapter Records, Kunst has dedicated herself for over two decades to timeless techno. Her releases - on her own label as well as WSNWG and Rekids - embodies the pure, direct power of the genre, with her own particular twist. Colombian-born, NY-based Vile returns. An artist whose work pushes boundaries, Vile embraces a cutting edge futurism and raw, uncanny strangeness. Vile makes techno feel surreal, beckoning you towards, in their own words, “escapist transformation.”
Pablo Bozzi leads a special showcase for his Second Sight label in STUDIO. Bozzi has become one of the most beloved talents in the modern italo-disco-house landscape, bringing forth one exceptional release after another. Each time, he’s able to capture the quintessential rush of timeless late ‘80s / early ‘90s dance music, whether in throbbing, glamorous synth tracks or more sleek, coursing club tracks. His recent “Wired” EP on Second Sight is another masterstroke, with the slightest hint of dubby spaciousness giving depth to his unstoppable underground anthems. Byron Yeats’ musical journey has included everything from saucy house to trippy downtempo, but perhaps the apex of his artistry arrived with last year’s “Pansy Beat” LP. The album is a true journey and a love letter to the full sprawl of dance music. Kim Ann Foxman completes an already-heavy lineup. "What I play,” she once reflected, “is everything that I love to dance to.” This means bold, acid-drenched house, diva vocals, jacking drums and balmy, Balearic pads. A pillar of 21st century dance music, Foxman has been a leading light since first emerging in the early ‘00s as a member of Hercules and Love Affair. Today, the work continues across her collaborations and work on her labels Firehouse Recordings, self:timer and Pleasure Planet.

Reading a dance floor is not a science, but knowing how to make the audience enjoy every minute is an art Anika Kunst puts into practice session after session. She has spent more than twenty years perfecting her intuition, technique and building up a vinyl collection which oscillates between timeless techno and the most select house, making the most of the nuances that exist between said genres and all their sub-genres have to offer. Maybe you remember some of her emblematic vinyl-only ‘All Night Long’ sessions or maybe you saw her perform in London, Berlin, Brussels or during her time in Latin America. She might have made her mark on one of your idyllic summer nights in Ibiza or perhaps you heard her at a festival or an distinguishing club in Barcelona at her ‘Selectors’ night; always in constant evolution, with all possibilities still open for exploration. You may be familiar with her well-respected label, which he founded in 2014 as Chapter Records, and you may even have played or listened to one of her releases yourself, perhaps at a DVS1 or Dave Clarke session. You might also have already discovered her studio work, such as her "Different Approach EP" on RSPX (Rekids Special Project), her acclaimed remix of Rødhad on WSNWG, her 'Hidden Intention EP' or 'Sin Rodeos EP' for Symbolism, Ben Sims' label. Her most recent release has been a track for ‘Back To Zero’, a V.A. on Rodhad's label.Their RA profile lists Casanova Bar, Symbolism Ltd, WSNWG, WSNWG – BACK TO ZERO and 2 more.Last at public records in Jun · often with Berghain, L.B. Byron Yeates is a Berlin-based DJ and producer, founder of the party-turned record label Radiant Records, co-founder of La Noche, and a resident at Adonis in London, as well as Power Dance Club and Refuge Worldwide in Berlin. He has served his signature sound at Panorama Bar, Fold, Bassiani, Nowadays, Club Raum, TAG and beyond. Yeates’ sets are inflected with an attitude that can at once be incredibly playful and theatrically sincere; a duality that animates the queer lineage of electronic dance music in which Yeates places himself. Since November 2019, Yeates’ label Radiant Records has released an array of EPs by artists both local and abroad. The catalogue is filled with floor-ready cuts that also reward close listening—the RR sound is rich with unexpected timbres and textures, clever melodic lines, and rhythms pivoting far off the 4/4.Their RA profile lists !K7, High Hoops, Dischi Autunno, Planet Euphorique and 6 more.Recently at Nowadays, BASEMENT, Camp Kennybrook · often with Disk Cartel, THC, Carly Zeng, none of them here that night

The short-story version of Kim Ann Foxman’s trajectory is pretty simple: An island-born kid dreams of a life in clubland, hits the big city and, with a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work, emerges as one of dance music’s leading figures. But it’s the details that transforms her singular tale into something far more fascinating than the standard-issue success story. After all, what other DJ can lay claim to the title of Miss Teen Filipina Hawaii? How many can say that their first job in nightlife was when in high school, serving as the in-house dancer and serving rave smoothies at an all-ages club? How many, after moving to New York by way of San Francisco in the early ’00s, can say that they helped to rejuvenate the city’s then-stale nightlife via her residency at one of the best parties ever held in a hole-in-the-wall gay bar, the Mad Clams affair? How many have tasted stardom as one of the original members of the scene-making dance-music collective Hercules and Love Affair? Exactly one, and it’s Kim Ann. But it’s a safe bet that she would have made it to where she is today without those biographical eccentricities, because her near-classical take on jacking club rhythms is hard to resist, sounding as fantastic at a full-scale mega-rave as it does at a grimy basement bash. It’s a universally appealing sound that’s taken her around the world—the past few years have seen her playing such hallowed halls as Fabric, Berghain, DC-10, Concrete and Contact, all while holding down a residency at her hometown’s Good Room. A lifetime in clubbing has informed Kim Ann’s studio work as well, with her music—much of it coming out on her own Firehouse label—synthesizing the best elements of raw house, propulsive 303 material, emotive techno and even the occasional hint of trance into a hugely satisfying whole that lives somewhere between the weird and the wonderful. And then there’s her latest project, Pleasure Planet, which sees her teaming with Andrew Potter and Brian Hersey to add sparkling touches of extraterrestrial new wave to the mix on her new sublabel, self:timer. It’s yet another twist in the continuing saga of Kim Ann Foxman—and, we’d wager, there are plenty more to come.
