Brace yourself for a meeting of the minds: Dr. Rubinstein returns to BASEMENT, joined by The Advent and 98dots. Rubinstein is one of the great forces in modern acid techno, an artist whose joyous élan is matched only by her fearsome power. Rubinstein was born a raver, and came to the DJ booth via the dance floor. It shows in every selection she makes; a Rubinstein set is all killer, no filler, with each selection carefully selected to give the dancers exactly what they need. The Advent is one of the key architects of techno, an artist whose discography goes back to the golden age. There are simply too many great tracks to choose from, and each EP from his 30+ year discography is a testament to an uncompromising ethos. From early, timeless masterpieces like “Elements of Life” or more recent excursions, The Advent never fails to deliver. 98dots returns to the room. The Georgian artist is the person behind the Rapture Investigation radio show, where he lays out his unique vision of techno: immersive, psychedelic, thundering and expertly interwoven with other genres.

Jay Jackson (fka.m4a) is back in STUDIO to do what only they can. Favored by dancers, their joyous, unrestrained embrace of rave classics, trance anthems, house bombs and vocal flips hits with perfectly attuned impact. “The primary message of my music is about love and conveying emotion, and bringing that together in a room,” they once said. “There's so much in electronic music that I feel lacks soul. People are afraid to be vulnerable, but that’s one of the biggest reasons why I do what I do – to show that vulnerability.” Lauren Flax drops in for a session of rugged, acid-laced house. Rooted in classic, jacking sounds, Flax breathes new life into well-established tropes, using pared back structures with a minimum of elements to maximum effect. Her remix of Scotia’s “More Work” from earlier this year is a perfect example. A nasty earworm 303 line, thundering toms and the occasional clipped vocal sample are all she needs to raise the temperature to a fever pitch. Buenos Aires-born, Vienna-based Rumi de Baires appears for the first time. The co-founder of the Gaze party series, de Baires has been a driving force in his city’s queer scene for years. His DJ sets overflow with steamy allure and vibrant, heady house.

    the whole biography
London based Cisco Ferreira, or ‘The Advent’, can be described in many ways: a musician, a pioneer, a sound designer, a steady force, one persistent m*therf*cker, a rebel, an icon, an outsider, a great live artist... Mostly though, The Advent is known for his interpretation of what we call Techno. Ever since young Portuguese Cisco discovered Acid House in the London clubs he frequented, his journey has been about making his mark on the electronic music scene. Or, as he recently put it himself: “I’ve been doing this for quite a few years and I’m not going anywhere.” This sums it up pretty well; you won’t see Ferreira naked, shooting promo videos carrying a dog, or hear him publically worrying about the sincerity of the average EDM jockey. He’s everything about techno you’ve learned to love, without the circus you’ve learned to accept. Fresh out of college, Cisco’s hunger for sound landed him a job as assistant sound-engineer in several recording studios. There he learned about the art of translating feelings to frequencies, while at the same time recording various high profile artists from the world of Rock, Pop, Dance, and Reggae. When acid label ‘Jack Trax’ moved in next-door, Cisco started recording for the likes of Adonis, Fingers Inc, Marshall Jefferson, and Derrick May. These rendezvous sparked the inspiration for his first EPs on R&S and Fragile. In 1994 Ferreira signed a record deal for 12 EPs and 3 albums together with Colin McBean. This was the beginning of an era during which the duo set a worldwide standard for high quality underground Electro and Techno. They hit the world with a refreshing sound, both as The Advent, and ‘G Flame (Cisco) and Mr G’, the alias Colin is still using. Nowadays The Advent is a solo project, bombarding crowds around the world with its trademark raw, energetic sound. A sound that grants him yearly slots at festivals as Nature One, Awakenings and Bonusz, as well as regular shows in clubs as Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, Lehmann in Stuttgart, and Madrid’s Fabrik. He hasn’t given up cooperating with likeminded artists though! In 2007 he met Ricardo Rodrigues aka Industrialyzer, in whom he recognised an attitude similar to his own. They are both from Portugal, both self-made, and the both have a clear vision of what techno should sound like. As a duo they’re at least as popular as they are as individual artists, playing sold out shows wherever they go, and steadily creating an impressive combined oeuvre.
Their RA profile lists Tortured Records, MB Elektronics, Drumcode, Tresor and 6 more.

London born, Berlin based fka.m4a (Jay Jackson) has built a solid reputation in the underground scene with a distinctive blend of euphoric and sensual House music. The London born and Berlin-based DJ has made an impact worldwide with filmed sets amassing over half a million streams online and has played at venues and festivals like Timewarp, Lost Village, Sonar and Panorama Bar, features in Mixmag and Electronic Beats, plus Peggy Gou in his corner as a mentor, his stock is firmly on the rise. Born in London, music was always front and centre in his family home, his mother playing music to him through headphones while he was still in the womb. Citing acts whose USP was female empowerment as the first music he found for himself, the likes of Spice Girls and Lil Kim were early musical influences, eventually leading him to start DJing on the queer scene in London. “I was working on the Soho & East London circuit” he says. “I was mainly doing guestlist and hosting but eventually they asked me to DJ and I spent a few years cutting my teeth on that scene.” Learning how to work a crowd as a pop DJ, seeing Honey Dijon DJ on his first trip to Berlin in 2016 led him down the rabbit hole of electronic music and led to a shift in his focus. “I completely fell in love with the storytelling element of her set,” he says. “I spent the next year immersed in dance music culture and started playing the electronic room at queer events.” Moving to Berlin in 2019, the pandemic quickly put a stop to his burgeoning DJ career before a switch to recording streams from his apartment during covid saw his profile blow up, leading to signing with an agency and bagging his first Panorama Bar set when lockdown lifted. With an event series in the pipeline and a summer stacked with festival shows from Hï Ibiza to DGTL, fka.m4a has firmly cemented himself as one of the leading artists in the underground space.

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Lauren Flax has been a lifelong musician, starting to play the drums at 8 years old before continuing on to guitar and bass in high school. She began her DJ career in the underground dance and rave scenes of Detroit as a resident at the Motor Lounge, playing every Tuesday night along with resident DJs Mike Servito, DJ Dilemma, Jason Kendig, and Derek Plaslaiko. Flax played the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 on the Motor stage. While originally starting off as a jungle DJ, Flax evolved her style into a variety techno, house, and electro music. Flax moved to Chicago in 1999, where she honed in on music production while continuing to DJ. By 2002, she relocated again to Manhattan, which shortly followed the release of her first remix, "Much Finer" for Le Tigre. In 2018, Flax was introduced to DJ Haus by fellow Detroit musician and friend Jimmy Edgar, to which he quickly signed a record, resulting in "Dance Trax Vol. 16" (2018). In 2019, Flax joined the mostly Detroit-born New York collective The Bunker New York,[1] on which she released "One Man’s House is Another Woman’s Techno EP" (2019). The EP was highly successful and sold out quickly. Flax met with Brooklyn-based record label 2MR in 2019, curious to explore beyond the realm of dance music. She remixed 'Breathe' by label-mate Pale Blue, and that ended up inspiring Flax's new style of music. After the remix was released, Flax took to writing a 6 track EP, merging genres of ambient, acid house, and much more, set to come out in Summer 2021. Flax started touring the United States and Europe as a solo artist in 2019, performing live analog sets, pushing the boundaries of what a DJ is defined as.
