To celebrate the release of the 33⅓ seriesmbook release of The Cure's Disintegration, spend an evening with the author, Andi Harriman, who will play the seminal vinyl record in its entirety on Silence Please's hi-fi sound system. This is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself into the way Disintegration is meant to be heard: loud and in great detail. Come prepared to not only listen to the LP, but to experience it.

The book begs the question: why should an album make you feel good?

In 1989, The Cure's Robert Smith was going to turn thirty years old. His fears and anxieties of age-having not yet written his pinnacle album-caused Smith to embark on the band's undoing with Disintegration. The result was an LP drenched in melancholy sublime, a beautiful decree of breaking down to build anew. From the fame and notoriety of The Cure after their hit, “Just Like Heaven,” to the departure of the only other consistent band member, Lol Tolhurst, it's clear that the grisly spiral into the depths of pain is stamped throughout Disintegration.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase on site.

Andi Harriman is a Brooklyn-based DJ, boss of the party and label SYNTHICIDE, and a music journalist with an emphasis on all things 1980s. She is the author of the book Some Wear Leather, Some Wear Lace: The Worldwide Compendium of Post-punk and Goth in the 1980s and has written for Rolling Stone, DJ Mag, Creem and The Village Voice.

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Electric is the only way to describe Andi’s sets. The NYC-based DJ, producer, and SYNTHICIDE label/party boss constructs a dynamic and intoxicating flow that’s always palpable between the walls of the foggy, neon-lit dancefloor. Parts sleaze and sultry, Andi’s aesthetic is body music based, thriving on the delivery of the groove and the bombastic highs of a track’s apex. As a devotee of distinct sounds such as EBM, new beat, Italo, freestyle and housey 90s elements, her sets reflect her deep vinyl collection: diverse, yet focused, and completely one-of-a-kind. Her own productions aim to challenge the expectations within the confines of traditionally masculine dance genres. With bassline-heavy grooves and a conceptual emphasis on storytelling with samples taken from long-forgotten erotic thrillers and seedy sci-fi films, Andi adds a wry yet delicate touch to machine music. As the boss of SYNTHICIDE—the internationally known party, label and event series—Andi has cultivated the dark underground scene for over a decade in Brooklyn. SYNTHICIDE started at the notorious club in Bushwick, Bossa Nova Civic Club, where the party still holds a monthly residency. Additionally, Andi is a resident at The Lot Radio and NYC’s Gabriela.
