FETISH ATTIRE MANDATORY
PORNCEPTUAL returns for a full-venue takeover. The Berlin party is positioned at the vanguard of modern clubbing, pushing a radical liberation that extends across forms - music, art, writing and more. Longtime resident The Lady Machine leads the night. As both a producer and a DJ, The Lady Machine matches the party’s ethos perfectly; her expertly-crafted works trade in a mixture of intense, gritty weight and kinetic, nimble movement. EPs on Mote Evolver, Token, Ben Sims’ Symbolism and her own Unterwegs all evince a steely power that finds its strength in controlled chaos. Huamaniser makes her debut. The Spanish-born, Berlin-based artist has built close ties with the Perceptual crew, bringing her taut, feverish style to many of their key events over the past two years. KONZ also makes her debut. A key member of Berlin’s new school, KONZ steers the ship into the darkest waters. Her sets are pure shadow work, replete with inky textures and haunting reverberations. BASEMENT resident LYDO completes the night, as only he can. One of NY’s most dynamic and accomplished artists working today, LYDO’s worldbuilding - both inside his sets and beyond - is both expansive and deeply personal.
PORNCEPTUAL resident Curses returns, again to headlining STUDIO as part of their program. A self-described leader of the “next wave acid punx,” Curses goes all in on pumping, dark synthwave of the highest order. On his most recent “Crown Of Ruin,” he evokes the legacy of landmark artists like Ministry, Revolting Cocks and Front Line Assembly while adding a dash of pure gothic romance for good measure. Kim Ann Foxman returns to the room. One of NY’s great house music dreamers, Foxman straddles the line between dreamy euphoria and acid-drenched jacking house. Her extensive CV is about as impressive as you can get; Foxman has a knack for finding vital collaborators and new nodes of creativity at every turn. Now more than two decades into a storied career, she remains vital and ever-evolving. Shaun J. Wright is one of house music’s definitive vocalists in the 21st century. Like Foxman, he has put in time collaborating with Hercules and Love Affair. But Wright’s legacy is most clearly seen in his solo work and Twirl label & party series, in collaboration with Alinka. Born in Chicago, Wright is the heir to a profound lineage queer vocalist / producer / DJs who mix the joyful and the radical, the diva-esque and the confronting in equal measure.

She began her journey in Mexico, where years of playing shaped her instinctive and grounded approach to the dancefloor. Since then, she’s played at renowned venues across Europe and Latin America, building a name for sets that are both intense and deeply immersive. Whether she’s crafting deep, rolling grooves or surprising the crowd with unexpected turns, Konz knows how to take people on a ride, fully and unapologetically. In Berlin, she co-founded wwwet (World Wide Wet), a collective and platform that highlights global and underrepresented voices, with a special focus on Latin America. The short-story version of Kim Ann Foxman’s trajectory is pretty simple: An island-born kid dreams of a life in clubland, hits the big city and, with a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work, emerges as one of dance music’s leading figures. But it’s the details that transforms her singular tale into something far more fascinating than the standard-issue success story. After all, what other DJ can lay claim to the title of Miss Teen Filipina Hawaii? How many can say that their first job in nightlife was when in high school, serving as the in-house dancer and serving rave smoothies at an all-ages club? How many, after moving to New York by way of San Francisco in the early ’00s, can say that they helped to rejuvenate the city’s then-stale nightlife via her residency at one of the best parties ever held in a hole-in-the-wall gay bar, the Mad Clams affair? How many have tasted stardom as one of the original members of the scene-making dance-music collective Hercules and Love Affair? Exactly one, and it’s Kim Ann. But it’s a safe bet that she would have made it to where she is today without those biographical eccentricities, because her near-classical take on jacking club rhythms is hard to resist, sounding as fantastic at a full-scale mega-rave as it does at a grimy basement bash. It’s a universally appealing sound that’s taken her around the world—the past few years have seen her playing such hallowed halls as Fabric, Berghain, DC-10, Concrete and Contact, all while holding down a residency at her hometown’s Good Room. A lifetime in clubbing has informed Kim Ann’s studio work as well, with her music—much of it coming out on her own Firehouse label—synthesizing the best elements of raw house, propulsive 303 material, emotive techno and even the occasional hint of trance into a hugely satisfying whole that lives somewhere between the weird and the wonderful. And then there’s her latest project, Pleasure Planet, which sees her teaming with Andrew Potter and Brian Hersey to add sparkling touches of extraterrestrial new wave to the mix on her new sublabel, self:timer. It’s yet another twist in the continuing saga of Kim Ann Foxman—and, we’d wager, there are plenty more to come. Born and raised in west suburban Chicagoland, Shaun J. Wright spent most of their teen years immersed in the sounds of house music. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, house music was a powerful force, permeating the mainstream airwaves of Chicago’s most prominent radio stations. With Wright being raised in the epicenter of house culture during this era, their love for dance music began to expand throughout their high school years as they partook in the underground dance scene now globally known as Juke. While in undergrad at Morehouse College in Atlanta, they developed their skills as a dancer in the vogue ballroom scene and professional dance companies. After acquiring an MA Fashion Curation from the London College of Fashion, Wright enjoyed an active career in fashion in New York City. That is where they met Andrew Butler, founder of Hercules and Love Affair, in 2008, and began a whirlwind collaboration with the ensemble as a vocalist. They spent nearly three years touring with the outfit, performing in major venues & festivals throughout North & South America and Europe. They’re also featured prominently on the ensemble’s lauded sophomore album, “Blue Songs’. Returning to Chicago in 2012 to forge their solo career, Wright began to collaborate with respected DJ and producer Alinka. Promptly after beginning their party Twirl in the spring of 2013, Wright & Alinka released their first EP, Twirl Vol. 1, on the celebrated Classic Music Company led by luminaries Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter. They continued to expand upon the brand in late 2014 with their Twirl Records debut release “Journey Into The Deep” EP which included remixes from Kim Ann Foxman and Stereogamous. The label’s output has received much critical acclaim and has been supported by DJ Mag, XLR8R, Mixmag, BBC Radio 1’s Heidi and Annie Mac, and a plethora of notable DJ’s. Wright continues to collaborate with other sought after producers including Chrissy, Kiki, System Of Survival, Stereogamous Bell Boys, Bobmo, and Nicholas, and has been released on Freerange, BPitch Control, Honey Soundsystem & Cocktail D’Amore, Discovery, Marble, and 4Lux, respectively. Wright steadily exhilarates dance floors internationally as a DJ weaving live vocals throughout their sets in locations as far and varied as: Sydney, Berlin (Panorama Bar), London, Auckland, Stockholm, Barcelona, NYC, Los Angeles and his hometown of Chicago (Smart Bar).House on 53, Deep House on 34, Tech House on 21 and Techno on 7. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on .FREQLINK (1), Black Artist Database (1) and Leftroom (1); their RA profile also lists Defected Records, Classic, BPitch, Freerange Records and 6 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at House of Yes, BASEMENT, Signal · often with Mike Servito, cotton, Makadsi, none of them here on Saturday
