With Resonant Objects, her first studio album release in ten years, KATIEE transforms her deepest lived experiences, both transformational and traumatic, into a conduit for vibrant reconnection; a document of joy, movement, and re-emergence. These eight songs of darkly glimmering synth pop are aimed directly at the dance floor as they distill a lifetime, beginning on the night that life exploded and stretching back and forth in a nonlinear narrative that never gets in the way of the beat.
Written, recorded, and produced by H.K. Eastburn (known for previous work in the beloved band Young People, among other projects), Resonant Objects was realized over an intense three-year period, and composed from moments both musical and personal that go as far back as 30 years into her history. Though Eastburn is responsible for the vast majority of the album's sounds and flow, she's joined on occasion by a host of friends that includes drummer, percussionist and synthesist Cory Bracken (American Football) and Mark Shue (Guided by Voices) on bass. Deftly constructed arrangements of layered synths are bathed in club lights, percussion oscillates between minimal pulses and overpowering rushes of complexity, and inspired production conducts it all with an expert's touch.
In creating Resonant Objects, Eastburn drew from reflections on a span of years that included the loss of a sibling and a parent to suicide, the unraveling of a toxic marriage, cresting tides of friendship and love, the rebirth of a self long buried, and many moments of clarity and confusion. These songs are born of some of the heaviest things life can throw at a person, but the vibe is anything but dire. Rather than walking the audience through her trauma, Eastburn uses Resonant Objects to walk away from the darkness. It's a celebration, a release, an exhalation, and above all, a joyous invitation to dance.
