Sala Sessions
A multi-sensory deep listening experience
What It Is
Created by partners Toribio (musician/producer/DJ) and Ada Rojas (herbalist and reiki practitioner), Sala Sessions is a multi-sensory deep listening experience rooted in their at-home grounding ritual. Each session expands this intimate practice into a collective experience, where curated music, custom herbal tea blends, and ritual incense create space for meditative presence and connection.
The Experience
Over 2-2.5 hours, we invite you to slow down and listen deeply. Ada begins each session with a grounding meditation to help everyone settle in. Toribio then guides the room through carefully curated ambient soundscapes. We encourage you to feel the music, notice how it moves through you, and trust your intuitive responses.
Custom herbal tea welcomes you as you arrive, intentionally crafted to ground you and open you up to receive the medicine of the music. Throughout the session, an incense journey unfolds with different scents at different points, supporting the sensory experience.
The space feels cozy and living room-like - a place where you can truly settle in. The music does the healing work; we create the container for collective presence.
Why We Created This
In a culture that demands constant productivity, Sala Sessions offers permission to simply be still—together. Drawing inspiration from The Loft (David Mancuso's legendary 1970s gatherings where music served as medicine), Deep Listening (Pauline Oliveros' practice of transforming hearing into profound attention), and The Nap Ministry (Tricia Hersey's framework for rest as resistance), we create intentional space where nervous systems get to exhale and intuition gets space to surface.
This isn't about escaping - it's about arriving. We're not offering distraction; we're creating space for collective attunement.
What to Expect
Duration: 2-2.5 hours
Setting: Intimate, cozy living room atmosphere
What to Bring: Yourself, exactly as you are. Comfortable clothing recommended
Experience Level: No experience necessary. All are welcome
This is rest without the expectation of sleep—social rest without conversation, creative rest without production, sensory rest that awakens, mental rest that doesn't require checking out
For this next Sala Session we want to have a theme if you will:
We want to bring light to our ancestors (dia de los muertos is around the corner). So we wanted to ask you to bring something to make this session even more elevated. We will be setting an ancestral altar to honor and connect with our ancestors. Feel free to bring anything, a photo, or any item that symbolizes an ancestor (mints, scarf, literally anything). If you can't think of anything even writing a name on a piece of paper will suffice.

their own biography
the whole biography
A triple threat who lights up a room when behind the decks, in the studio and on stage, TORIBIO is a lifelong student of rhythm. Analyzing melodies and chords with a musician's ear, the Dominican-American artist blends different genres and moods in all his creative pursuits–DJing, producing, singing, playing instruments, and even his skills on the mic. Thanks to a childhood spent playing in church and jazz drumming, the Florida-born, New York-based act has a natural sense of harmony. He takes on the role of musical cartographer in his Afro-Latin band, Conclave, whose debut album was named one of Resident Advisor's best in 2021 and praised by both Rolling Stone and the New Yorker. Acting as the ensemble's bandlander, vocalist, and key instrumentalist, TORIBIO connects jazz, soul, and house from various cultures with style and grace. His speciality in sonic connections are especially tangible in his DJing. Gliding from pan-Latin club to raw electro to jazz to old-school funk, his sets are a masterclass in building energy and tension. Whether playing Boiler Room or clubs in Mexico City and Tokyo, he knows how to work a crowd with selections and transitions that are as precise as they are powerful. As a producer, his edits and originals are DJ weapons, rinsed by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Rich Medina, and Theo Parrish. His original tracks have been remixed by the likes of Louie Vega, Joe Claussell, and DJ Spinna. Known for fostering community through movement, his Brooklyn block parties (Public Service NYC) embody the spirit of New York’s dance culture while his newly formed imprint B.D.A. is quickly becoming known for bringing these vibes to vinyl. A TORIBIO show is a full-body experience— as he always says, “bring dat ass, and your feet will follow.”House on 16, Deep House on 6, Disco on 6 and Downtempo on 6. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on BDA (4) (2) and Bastard Jazz Recordings (1); their RA profile also lists BBE, Fool's Gold, Darker Than Wax, Razor-N-Tape and 4 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Brooklyn Roots Collective, Locust Grove, Good Room · often with Mickey Perez, Love Injection, MUSCLECARS, none of them here on Sunday
