When Carly Zeng DJs, it’s highly unlikely she’ll do the same thing twice. Chinese-born and now Berlin-based, she has formed quite the community in her chosen city through her party, Dissident, which fosters a nurturing approach to music discovery. Her long love affair with vinyl-focused digging is no secret. And the ripple effects of such veracious collecting can be heard in the way she weaves together the many genres that she likes–be it a trippy tribal or prog track with a weird structure or an off-kilter sound effect in a punchy house tune – she’s forever on the lookout for tracks with that little extra spice. Carly’s entry point into dance music in NYC, led her into smaller parties, DIY spaces and warehouse raves and the community spirit she found there is something she still carries with her today. A known name within Berlin’s queer music scene, she is regularly billed at parties such as Cocktail D’Amore and Body Language. Whether as a DJ, community organizer or dancer on the floor, Carly is staunchly attentive to her role within the dance music ecosystem and how to best curate a warming experience for everyone involved. the whole biography
His productions draw elements from the UK’s rich rave history while pushing a resolutely forward-facing sound. Early EPs on cult UK labels Ancient Monarchy and FTD established a restless, anything-goes approach to music-making, one that extends through to his club sets – a fluid and stylistically diverse selection that weaves between genres and eras while maintaining a fun and carefree approach to dance music. Mixes for Crack Magazine, DJ Mag, Fact and Ceramics (which Thump named their No.1 mix of 2015), as well as numerous guest slots on NTS, Rinse FM and a monthly residency on Refuge Worldwide have cemented his reputation as a thrilling and diverse DJ, as comfortable with well-considered warm-ups as he is playing peak time sets. As joint label-owner of Peach Discs alongside long-time friend Shanti Celeste, he’s released records by Call Super, Parris, Ciel and Peach, setting the stage for exciting developments in the label’s future. As well as running the longstanding Housework parties in Bristol and Berlin alongside Shanti, Golesworthy, and Daisy Moon, he’s played many well-respected clubs, venues, and festivals throughout Europe and the world. With his latest 12” on Erol Alkan’s legendary Phantasy record label getting plays from a wide range of the scenes most exciting DJs and plenty of new music in the pipeline, his activities in the studio and behind the decks continue to mark out Gramrcy as a producer and DJ to keep an eye on.Their RA profile lists Phantasy Sound, Midnight Shift, FTD, Ancient Monarchy and 3 more.often with Monty DJ, Jan Loup, Mor Elian, none of them here that night
