Sammy B - deviate
Sammy B originally from New Zealand has had a long involvement in the Berlin bass music scene. In the early days she started out attending events as a ‘die-hard’ raver and a music photographer. Her love for bass heavy music meant it wasn’t long before she bought a pair of Technics and an old Serato box to learn DJ-ing herself.
She moved to Berlin in 2013 and in the following years discovered and grew connections within the local scene, specifically in Dubstep and DnB circles. In terms of style, Sammy B is drawn to most things ‘dark’ be that building and rolling basslines, eerie ambience or metal-like aggression. She enjoys creating a vibe of ‘atmospheric anticipation’, by cultivating deep and long blends with little intention for the use of effects.
From starting out exclusively in 140 dubstep sound, it was around 2018 when she moved into mixing up more and more DnB, specialising in 170 half-time - a genre she feels most at home in. It's ever-evolving, pushing genre-defined boundaries and has such diverse elements that always inspire new vibes and direction in her mixes. Sammy B is striving to always challenge the idea of what is ‘expected’ within bass genres, she aims to keep mixes rolling based on its vibe not only genre or tempo alone.

Sammy B’s involvement in the scene has led to multiple bookings within the EU - notably Membrain Festival, Fusion, 3000GRAD and Subardo Festival. Along with German based crews such as WobWob, Impulse, Bassism, Break It Down, Eat The Bass and Gretchen Club’s Recycle - Berlin’s finest DnB.
In 2018 she realised a calling to the ‘promoter life’ and launched her own event series called deviate to provide an alternative perspective for bass music parties, mixing up line-ups and genres with the goal to "depart from usual or accepted standards". The motivation for the event came from wanting to support the less-known, the up and coming DJs/Producers and also give space to FLINTA artists to encourage their participation in the non-mainstream DnB and bass music scene. The event continues with its residency in Berlin’s Club Gretchen - box 2, now in its 8th year of existence.
